Pandora is dead - RIP

Post by Hepha Luemp » Fri May 04, 2007 11:25 am

Sorry to say, Pandora is no dead for all of us listening outside of the US of A.

This was my favorite internet radio, and I will miss it.

R.I.P.

sweetjesus, thanks for the tip!

- haven't gotten it to work, though, pandora says it has some technical problems.

and hambone1, you're right, they will continue to stream to the U.K.

the station I miss the most is my nicely tuned Bill Laswell radio..
- oh well, maybe it'll work tomorrow...

Well, I couldn't get the proxies to work, they didn't like the flash player, I think.

Still, I got it working by using a free vpn service by secureix.com
I had to register, though, but still - Pandora is Back!

I gotta admit...I do use it for my office radio. Even paid the $9 / quarter subscription fee. It runs all day in the background.

The non-US licensing problem is discussed here

http://blog.pandora.com/pandora/

Basically, they're hating it but their hands are tied if they want to do things completely legally.

Heard a lot of new stuff I never would have known about otherwise; like Harold Budd and William Basinski...very inspiring.

Their algorithms get a little weird sometimes; One of my stations I call Quiet Ambient and occasionally something like a techno track comes up on it...

Pandora is f'kin awesome with Audio Hijack Pro.

Set Audio Hijack Pro to start a new file after every 2 seconds of silence (-60dB), and have it automatically send the resulting MP3s straight to iTunes or your iPod. Great for exercising, and discovering stuff you've never heard.

Now if it could only capture ID3 tags...
