Latency is different between Audiofire driver and Live

Post by pvh7 » Wed May 09, 2007 9:11 pm

Hi,
I use an echo audiofire2 with live 6.07. I set my sound card at 256 samples, 44100. The latency (in the driver monitor) is 5.8 ms. Now, when I go in live preference, I see 256 samples, 44100 sample rate but the latency output indicated is 8.71 ms!
Why?

thanks!

latency has 2 parts, into the computer and out of the computer. My guess is that the lower number is into the computer the higher number is the round trip.

out of computer?
how can live measure latency out of the computer?

go to the options-preferences-audio menu
look for the latency setting, there's 1 number for in, 1 number for out and a third number for in + out.

How does Live calculate output latency? I don't know but it does. I guess a look at your sound card's properties and some math.

output is 8.71
input is 14.5
overall is 23.2

i don't understand why output is 8.71 because at 44100 with 256 samples must be 5.8 ms

there's more going on than just samplerate/buffer depth to calculate latency, there's the actual propogation delay of the hardware to account for, a structure that goes beyond bits seemlessly moving from your TRS plug into a track in Live.

This latency thing is a real problem in Counterstrike... when I hear the footsteps of the enemy I am already dead.

starting to get same probs with my multiface on newest drivers and live 6.0.5

too much overall latency. when diminishing buffer size to 32ms I get pops and clicks, and no latency improvement.

if you guys know how to solve this...
