Unlinked Envelopes and Frozen Tracks

Post by docjah » Thu May 17, 2007 6:56 pm

HI,

I've got a 2 measure drum loop.

I've put an unlinked volume envelope on it so it's only heard in measures 7 and 8.

When the track is unfrozen , it works great.

When I freeze the track it never kicks in , kind of like it's repeating the envelope for bars 1 and 2 all the time.

I use this technique a lot , Help!

Dave

Hi,

Indeed, Live does not take in account any length of unlinked clip envelope, I think the limiti is 2 bars. We are thinking about it, but problems start easily if you think of multiple unlinked clip envelopes with various length: what should be the limit of a frozen file?

As for now, it is advised to render such a track if you need to, or to resample it to another track using the internal routing.

Why not the same length of the longest unlinked envelope in the track?

Hi,

That is an option, but still not satisfactory: imagine having one envelope 7 bars long, another one 9 bars long, and another one 13 bars long. Would you like your clip to loop every 13 bars? What about the 2 first envelopes?

The main problem is that we could easily end up with huge files.

HI,

Then freezing blows.

It means you need to keep track of which tracks have unlinked envelopes etc.

Files size is too big... Who cares? When you freeze , you also render arangement view which is huge.

This should be fixed.

Find tracks with unlinked envelopes

Post by dzoge » Sun Jun 17, 2007 3:55 pm

So, is there any way to find all tracks, that have clips with unlinked envelopes on it? Searching for it manually in big and long projects could take a lot of time.

Thanks.

how about a warning so that if you are freezing a track that has unlinked envelopes longer than 2 bars, you are notified and allowed to cancel or go ahead.

might be reasonable. I believe the above example would be 819 bars long. and then would it render a second pass, to catch the tail and make a "real loop"??

;)

i'd like to see the option of flatten without freeze so that all effects and automation remain only now with a flattened sample.
