"Low Disc Space" Message flashing when trying to record!

I have a 20 GB hard drive with over 50% free disk space and everytime I try to record in the arranger view, I get this message:
"Disk Space is Low. Recording will be stopped in 60 seconds".
Is almost 8 GB of hard disk space not enough? Or is there something else I need to do. I am using an Athlon 900 Mhz with 384MB RAM (yes yes I know, very funny 
). Any help will be greatly appreciated!
