Getting my Novation SL working, please help!!

Hi,

I am wanting to get my novation SL working with Ableton Live. The ultimate goal is to use it for automapping within ableton, but baby steps first. Sadly, I have owned it for a month, and even after printing out all the manuals, listening to the tutorial guide twice, I can't even get it to work with normal templates. I have recently uninstalled everything and I am trying to start from scratch. It amazes me that out of the material to read there is no step by step instructions on how to get it up and running.

What is the first couple steps to take to get the SL working?

I just installed the Remote SL installer to get automap to work. That went well accept that at the end of the process it asked me to connect my SL to the computer. It is connected, but each time I hit ok it just kept giving me the same message so I had to hit cancel. This may have been for updating the templates, I know I tried to do that once back in April, but I got an error message. Currently, i have no automap templates in slots 39,40 and 38 is cubase. This does not match what others have said.

Please help, I am getting so frustrated and it seems clear I can't do this without outside help!

First, make sure you download the latest OS for the SL (3.1). After installing that, you should have plug-in, mixer, and ableton automap templates on 38,39 and 40 respectively. There will be some point during the install process where you will have to disconnect and reconnect the SL to finish the installation. It tells you when.

And make sure you have both manuals. The SL User Guide and the Universal Automap Guide. The second one has step by step setup instructions for every host.
