I'd recommend downloading them. However, if you have one of the CDs with the Keyboard Collection instead of the Xpress Keyboards, you may have the new drivers already. Click on the about in the driver control panel to check your driver and firmware version. The latest driver version's 1.6.4 for Windows and 2.2.3 for Mac.mkelly wrote:Did you find new drivers to be necessary? It seems to be working fine for me on the CD-supplied drivers so I'm reluctant to install more than necessary. That said, I probably haven't taxed it yet.gerard wrote:Be sure to download the latest drivers and you should be fine.

I just bought one yesterday and so far I like it a lot. The box itself is heavy and it feels well-made and like it won't break. The buttons are pretty nice too.
I'm having trouble getting the buttons to do what I want with Live 6.0.7, but I haven't gotten too deep into the manual yet. I like to try and make stuff work intuitively before looking at manuals!
One bummer is that you need to run the Audio Kontrol 1 application whenever you want to use the buttons, not just to assign them. That seems a little clunky to me. The application has preset "pages" for controlling apps like Live, iTunes, etc., that are just XML files. If anyone has a good page for Live, link it here!

From NI specs:
Maximum Output Level +13 dBu 4.26 V rms,
100 mW @ 100 Ohms
just 100mw ; (
Rhe problem its for decent level you need put the card to maximum, and that create distored sound, why developers amke cards with low output?
300mw should be the minimum level !!
Well i think i need buy amp headphone lol............
I buyed thsi card due the little size now need buy amp jajaja
For studio use the output its ok, the problem start when want use on club......
The next time NI, think on this : )
Anyway this is a problem i see in all sound card i use....
Mi prior fast track pro usb have little more level..........but low tooo....
This is one point audio comapnys, should improve...

I just picked up an AK1 and I like t very much. As far as performance goes the AK1 seems like it will make a great alternative to my "big rig", and allow me to do a lot of work with a vert compact and portable setup. I found it online at AudioMidi for under $200, with a free vocal mic and headphones! Not bad at all.
Dj-Grobe, what headphones are you using? The output level on mine seems to be fine. I have a pair of AT's that I use for everyday stuff and they can get overly loud with the AK1. My Grado SR60's also sound very good and there is no problem with max volume other than the potential for them to be too loud.
My "critical listening" cans are AKG 240DFs (600 Ohm) and nothing really drives them properly, unless I'm using a dedicated headphone amp that is designed to power high impedance headphones.

Doots has a goot point. A different set of headphones might be better matched for the amp in the AK1.
I agree though, it's a bummer when an interface or a portable recorder or whatever has a weak headphone amp. I had to buy a separate headphone amp in order to use my Ozonic live on stage. But the plus side of this is that having the headphone amp around the studio has been really great. It gets used all the time. I couldn't imagine not owning one now. I love my headphone amp.
The AK1 seems like a cool product. If you use Final Cut or any video software, the controls on it are really well suited for video editing.
