Akai MPD-16 crashes Windows XP-Why?
Akai's website claims that the most recent driver fixes the problem of random Windows XP crash and reboot. Not really, Akai. Akai USA was no help. They did respond to my first e-mail but none of the subsequent ones. The driver stinks, and while functional, the mapping software stinks because of being stuck with the General MIDI drum names. I had Impulse set up on all 16 pads then the crashing started. XP reported the reason as a faulty driver. I uninstalled the Akai software and stopped using the MPD-16. No more crashes. Now that the M-Audio Trigger Finger is coming down in price there isn't much of a reason for anyone to buy the Akai. The MPD-24 is not an option for me because of the crappy (non-existant) support from Akai.

I have the MPD16, on a mac though, but if it's any consolation, I think it's cheap, stiff pads with only a sweet spot in the middle, not matter how you play, an occasional finger tap will get missed. Dunno, maybe in this way the windows MIDI driver is better, but on a mac, even if it doesn't crash, it sucks.
A friend left it at my house, and never picked it up, and I sort of resent that, because I'm just broke enough to where if something works even badly, it's hard to justify a replacement.

Well the mpd16 works absolutely fine when plugged in through my Korg's MIDI in. I left it plugged in to USB to power it, but disabled it through the Device Manager in windows (this also means I can edit the presets by temporarily re-enabling the device).
Anyone know how good Akai is at coming out with fixes?
