Dropped Notes in MIDI?

Post by highmarcs » Wed Jun 20, 2007 5:51 pm

I've been playing midi in Live for quite some time and have never had this problem. Today, when I went to record some simple MIDI sequences, the sequence plays back wrong, with notes that I played seemingly missing or severely cutoff.

I'm using an Edirol PC-50 controller if that helps. I've used it before with no problems, and things sound good while recording, it's just all screwed up when I play it back.

I hope this is the result of some simple setting.

what is the sequence playing back on? Like, what VSTi or hardware synth?

Many electronic instrumetns allow you to set up polyphony on a per-patch basis... i.e. your bass patch may only play back one note at a time, and if you feed it a chord it'll just choose the note in the chord that came a few msec later than all the others.

Hmm...it's playing Halion Player. I don't remember fooling with any of the settings from last time I used it though.

On another listen, I think it might actually be adding short notes instead of dropping any. I play da...da...da...and it records da...dada...da. I can't be sure, but it sounds like it's definately adding or duplicating certain single notes. I also don't think it's the polyphony issue because the chords in the piece are all fine. It's single notes that are screwing up, but then, not all of them.

I hope this doesn't make things even more of a mystery.
