OSX 10.4.10 = No more sound
Just updated to the latest OSX 10.4.10
No more audio in Ableton, just pops, clicks and a high pitched tone.
I'm using an 8 Core Intel Mac, 4 gigs of ram, and a Motu828MkII firewire interface.
Already tried reinstalling my audio drivers.
Anyone else having any audio problems with this update?

Oh no!
I updated yesterday on my Powerbook G4. I hope it doesn't affect my M-Audio FW 410. I can't test it right now...
I got the same interface, did you solve the problem?BobHofman wrote:I am having the same problem with this update. I have a Behringer FCA202 interface
Apple suggested to downgrade to 10.4.9.
I do not know if this works. At the Behringer forum someone tried this and then upgraded to 10.4.10 again with the Combo-Installer but the Interface is still not recognized.
I think I'll remain 10.4.9 for a little. FC202A is such an easy interface how can it be
not recognized? Did tried also with external power?

Hi Pasha
Stay at 10.4.9
Behringer & Apple have to sort things out. The strange thing is that the FCA202 is recognized as a FW device but you can not choose it as an Audio Device in Ableton, Logic, Garageband and so on. It does not show up in System Preferences>Sound either.
UCA200 (usb) works fine with 10.4.10. Just bought one out of frustration. I have to re-install OS from CD but then I loose all my passwords & preferences & so on.

this really saved the day for me.. I was seconds away to do it then I saw your post!
I've been through the apple forums and got a lot of arrogant blinded apple people saying that this isn't going to be solved because it's a 3rd party fault not to have followed the FW Audio guidelines.... is someone going crazy?

Hi,
No, Behringer does not show up in audio/midi setup 10.4.10
But I have my FCA202 working again!!! I still do not know what happened but this is what I have done.
Disconnected all my FW devices
Downloaded a program called Pacifist (http://www.charlessoft.com/)
Then I downloaded the ComboInstaller 10.4.9 from the Apple site
With the help of Pacifist I only replaced a file called FWAudio.kext (an Extension File)
(it is strange though because 10.4.10 and 10.4.9 have the same modification date for this file)
Then i did the program Repair Permissions in Disc Utility, connected the FCA202 and to my surprise I could choose it again as an Audio Interface
So I think, but I am not sure, the file to replace is FWaudio.kext.
I read some other articles on the Apple forums that other Interfaces and even Airport Extreme Cards (Apple) have problems with 10.4.10
It is definitly NOT a fault in FCA202

my RME fireface 400 is giving me grief since i updated to 10.4.10, and i know its the updates fault because when i boot off my 10.4.9 backup partition, there is absolutely no problem.
shame on apple for blaming 3rd party dev's.
***update***
i've just tried replacing the FWaudio.kext as detailed in a previous post. it seems to have solved the problem !!!
thanks for the fix !!

don't find the file FWaudio in the old 10.4.9 package
I try to do your manip but I don't find the file FWaudio in the old 10.4.9 package.
Hello,
I am sorry that I am reacting so late to the posts. I am not reading them every day.
Sorry for that.
Download a program called Pacifist (http://www.charlessoft.com/); download the ComboInstaller 10.4.9 from the Apple site
After you have done this:
install Pacifist & open it
Then double click on the .dmg file from Apple (10.4.9.) & then drag this file to Pacifist. You can use the find function in Pacifist to locate FWAudio.kext
After you have located it you can choose the option Install within pacifist.
Your file will be replaced with the one from OS 10.4.9
I have to say that Apple does not like the idea to mix extensions from 10.4.9 with 10.4.10 but Apple themselves don't do a thing to repair this problem. It is not only the Behringer FCA202 which is having trouble with the latest update 10.4.10 Ther are a lot other Audio Cards having trouble. But Apple only states that it is a problem of the "third party people"
(Also I found out that Tubesock is not working anymore (a program to download movies from YouTube)
Well I hope that this post is helpfull
best
