audio glitches when I touch the macbook

Post by Metrotek » Wed Jul 04, 2007 11:05 am

Hi we are running Live6 off a new MacBook (2.0Ghz, 1GB RM, 120GB HD) and it works fine most of the time but we do get a randomly occurring problem where, as soon as you touch the macbook or particularly the mousepad, there is a crackling noise which comes out over the mix. it continues as long as you drag the mousepad.

Potential disaster waiting to happen when we gig with it in the next couple of weeks...

Has anyone come across this before and/or know of a fix?

cheers,

Pasha

If you open the hardware list (about this Mac) you'll see to which USB Root your audio interface is attached. If you are sharing the same as the touchpad move that away (According to M-Audio in a MacBook/MBP the best USB port is the one closest to the display so try that - source M-Audio Support Website).
In the past this was reported as a problem it should go away with FW or internal Audio. Try these and let us know,

yes swapping the USB ports worked alright - although in this case, the MBox needs to be plugged into the USB port closest to the front of the MacBook, the MIDI controller can go into the rear of the USB ports.

there were no glitches with this configuration in a lengthy live set last weekend.

thanks again for your help.

Good to know, I got a M-Audio Midisport 2x2 that M-Audio suggest to plug in the port closest to the back (the one closer to the FW port). Maybe it's because the MIDI port still retains its serial interface background and doesn't need so much!
