Live + Numerology... anyone?
Has someone already started using Numerology with Live?
On a mac you should be able to run them together by using Soundflower system level audio/midi piping. In theory this seems like a killer set-up but I have not had the time yet to check it out IRL.

Numerology
i've been playing around with numerology, but so far only to generate some clip audio to tweak in live. will get around to sync-ing when i have more time to spend.
numerology seems like a good compliment, since it can generate unusual stuff. i'm not into the usual sequencing gear, since i'm trying to get away from "keyboard" type melody/harmony, and exploring the possibilities of the inherent melody/harmony of whole chunks of audio.
all the best:

Works perfectly for me.
Live and numerology automatically recognize each others midi, so syncing one to the other is no problem. Control of live via numerology is cake as well. Maddening sample and loop triggering occur with this combo, especially when samples/loops are gate sensitive.
Soundflower works well to route audio from numerolgy hosted programs. Have been using fm7 a bunch. Tends to crackle sometimes though, and seems tough on cpu. Numerology/Live/Bidule seems to work a little smoother for me. (bidule hosts fm7 and routes audio)
Numerology is imo worth way more than $85. Try the demo, I bet you'll be hooked.
Also, Numerology rocks any piece of hardware like you've never heard.

Correct! I bought it 14 hours ago and since then I have been reading the manual and learning the software. It's nothing but brilliant! Can't wait to use it with Live and my guitar with midi pickup. Numerology doing live arpeggiator and Live looping clips of the normal guitar sound. A system like that is cool to have because whenever you can't sleep or have to wait for a bus somewhere you can create new concepts, in your mind, for hooking up instrument, audio and midi streamsUlcerPentacidis wrote:I bet you'll be hooked..
I just downloaded the demo..I was wondering if one could tell me how to route the midi and audio with live.Midi clock? Sunflower? What are the steps?UlcerPentacidis wrote:Works perfectly for me.

you don't need Sunflower to route the Midi clock. As long as you start Numerology first the Midi will appear in your Midi Clock sync in Ableton Live. A tip. Live's Midi Clock sucks but Numerology's is pretty solid. I recommned you use Numerology as the master clock.claudek wrote:I just downloaded the demo..I was wondering if one could tell me how to route the midi and audio with live.Midi clock? Sunflower? The best, best songs are utterly forgettable.

Rewire is on Jim's list of developmental features, should be arriving soon. To route audio to Live, choose Soundflower as your Sound pref in system prefs, then choose soundflower as input in Live and your actual output in Live. Numerology defaults to the systems sound out (he is implementing actual driver choice now.)
I can't believe how absolutely ridiculous Numerology is. I no longer care if Live implements midi.

call for a tutorial
Howdy,
I'm fixing to dive into figuring this out myself, but maybe one of you folks who have already gotten Live running/syncing/controlled-by Numerology through either Soundflower or Bidule could write up a step by step tutorial, including a walk through of your starting a track.
It would make you famous and help out plenty of folks until there is native ReWire in numerology.
I'm going to have to get Numerology now because a) it's wicked! and b) I called Steinberg to see if they still had some crossgrade Cubase SX 1.0 installation discs for sale to mac users who have the PC installer and their answer was to spend the 150$ to upgrade to 2.0. :/ Tempting because it would run well on my PC, but it would be a bit more overhead than I want on this G4. and for 85, I'd much rather get weirdness flexibility factor of Numerology. in the end I may have to do both, but if I go out of the country for school I'm not even going to have a midi controller (sigh)
So if anyone happens to have a Mac installer cd for Cubase SX that they've given up for Live, I'd sure love to pick it up
My dongle has never been inside a mac before...
um
no comment.

Ok got them to sync!! to work via going to the {CLOCK GROUP}:
and sending out of the MIDI CLOCK SYNC (SEND) Out "Numerology 1"
then in Live simply sync to this input..Make sure you have Ext sync enabled..
Now, how to get audio into Live from Numerology and hear it at same time (MONITOR) is the next puzzle , as Numerology only uses the OSX audio out ..so in midi/audio setup I have to choose default output Soundflower..but that meansI can no longer hear Numerology..Any ideas on this one? Can I monitor the input of what I'm gonna record into live?
I'm using a MOTU 828 soundcard.

Numerology is totally wicked!!! The best software I've come across since Logic and Live. Bought it yesterday and today I created a set of arpeggiators and hooked my UC-33 up to some Num parameters. Boy did I have fun tweaking the knobs in real time. But I had no cool synths, since the pluggo stuff crashes the mac on OSX. So I synced Logic to Numerology and recorded six midi channels on one Logic track set to "ch all" (coming in on "Numerolgy 1" together with the midi clock sync signal). For monitoring my knob tweaking I patched up some lousy Apple softies on Num. In Logic I splitted the midi track according to midi channels and patched up the Emagic synths on the Numerology tracks, now safely recorded into Logic. The first piece was created by hitting ONE seven note chord to kick off the arpeggiators. I studied the midi timing closely in a Logic editor and it's just too sweet!!! "Instant Groove Quantize" along the entire track, not a simple one or two bar pattern. That's what I like Num for!

OT but very cool

Nice pieces!
Those demos answered a question I put on the OSX audio forum about using Numerology with Logic. I think you can get these same type of things via the Environment, but not as simple and powerful as Numerology.
The interoperablity of these programs in OSX is far exceeding expectations!

PS this is Neil Goldstein from Loopers list. Interesting how we travel similar paths!
