assigning multiple loop points

Post by Guest » Mon Feb 23, 2004 9:41 pm

Would love to be able to assign mutliple loop points. For example: I could construct a live set of sequenced tracks, the song will reach the loop points and automatically loop until I take it out of loop...then move along to the next loop region where it will auto loop again. This would be much easier than using the having to move the loop marker manually in the middle of a live set when I would rather be twisting knobs or playing a synth.

i've asked for this exact feature myself on a couple of occasions in the past, and was met with a pretty apathetic response. i think we might be among a small group of people that want this. :(

that or ableton is planning it for a future release and is just keeping silent until it's ready, to keep the future a surprise! :D

Yes it's been asked for a number of times. Looping on the fly like Traktor does is what's wanted. Maybe Ableton think people don't play full length tracks in Live. I don't want to have to chop up every track into loop sections when this could so easily be implemented. And surely it is a "live" performance feature which is what the software is supposed to be about.

I can imagine that this is a pretty complicated design job for Ableton but I too would love to see this sort of feature. It may take time but we should keep asking...

i dont reckon it would be that complicated, this is one of the features I'd really like too - really important for samples that have a lead up or fade in so you can play the whole sample from the keyboard from scenes (rather than having to arrange it)

i've been asking for this for 2 years. it's pretty much the one feature that Traktor has over Live.

multiple loop

Post by podprod » Mon Apr 05, 2004 8:13 pm

yes I also have been asking for this one!!!
The function to loop 1 time is there so multiple is simply letting the user plae more than one time and pre set..
could still be a as simpl and elegant but really needs to be there to make live really be a live improvisational tool
With multiple looping I see a number of problems I needed in the program magically go away!
Also important is multiple time signature change..Totallty tied in!
best to all

Bring On The Mulitple Loop Points!!!!!

Post by HatHead » Sun Apr 11, 2004 5:03 am

I agree wholeheartedly and was in fact jut registered a login so I could post exactly that! Maybe DJs are OK leaning over their laptops during a live performance but musicians cannot both perform and fiddle with their mouse while squinting into a screen at the same time!!!!

This is an awesome product but bring on the mulitple loop points - it is one of the most important elements of live music - especially improvised music!

multiple loop points

Post by audio_link » Sun Apr 11, 2004 2:38 pm

Hope this doesn't strike you guys as too radical...
Why don't you use multiple instances of the same clip, with loop points in different places, and just move between those loops on a controler, foot pedal, keyboard, the force... whatever. I can't see how this is different from what you guys are after.
Let me know if I've missed the point, but really, play with the gear before playing with the forum!

Hello - I am new to Live and I will try this though it doesn't sound on the surface like it meets my needs regarding performing improvised live music. For example, your solution is clip specific when I will want to loop sections of an entire arrangement - many clips - so if I have to go a screen and set values for each clip in the arrangement in the middle of performance, it is not a feasible approach. Preconfiguring every clip cannot take into account where you might want to loop an entire arrangement during a perforamce.

It is one thing to DJ or mix while using a mouse and looking into a screen, it is another thing to perform music while doing this - as a musician, I want to minimize interaction with the laptop as much as possible.

Also, one might suggest that this forum is exactly the place to ask these types of questions and it is disappointing to get some attitude back as a reply - I hope that there is a real community here and that it's not just a stuck-up msgbd where newbies are dissed. (i.e. once you finished fighting with the software and don't need any more help, you can join the club...)
Peace!

loops

hathead:
You are right on with your thoughts..we need to create large sections in real meaures and be able to improvise and vamp on more than 1 set in each song..pre set to use(or Not)..
more discussion important here to let the ableton team know where we are at even if not the "normal" use..hry thats what this program is all about..I hve learned a great deal from my dj friends even thoiught that is not my world.
Lets work together to develop this and be open enough to learn from one another..the best ideas most times are not our own!

i would love this too...especially for the dj-use in the sessionview.
I like to play short parts of a track (1-4bars) and to rearrange them in my own order.

for each warped track i could define several loop-regions, and so beeing able to navigate and swap forward and backward through a track within a single clip, and by a single click.

the order of the regions should be set free by an index.

actually i create a new clip for each needed part of a track , sometimes up to 5-10 parts. so a dj-set for about 2 hours needs up to 40 tracks, so about 2-300 clips!?

any suggestions for this problem?

I totally want this too!

My idea:

1. you can set multiple loop points
2. you can set "launch points" which you could name 1,2,3,...,50,51,... and then e.g. choose them in the actual clip "icon" in the launch view in the audio track.

on a sidenote:
I think it would own if you could configure what things you could see in the clip view.
for example, for me it would own if i could see the clip actions in the actual clips in the audio track (so there's an icon for every clip - then I could easily get an overview of what's gonna happen)
then again I think some people wouldn't like this.
so this should be configurable.
another one like this would be whether to loop or not
and the "launch point"

i think ableton doesn't have enough configurability to make it a personal tool... anyone else share my thoughts?
i like it when i can tailor my tools just right for my demand
you know, in a way that the default is good for everyone. but if you're using ableton for 5 years, and want the text in the gui to be one pixel smaller, or one of the icons different, or what ever other minute detail, you can do it.
this kind of configurability owns - then an app really becomes "part of you", and much more than just a tool you might just as well replace eventually... because it's as "yours" as it was before you bought it and it was default in the box...
