question about controlling vst's

Post by manofunreal » Fri Jul 27, 2007 1:40 am

Hi everyone

I'm running Live with a whole bunch of VST's set up in a live set.

I have an Axiom 25 midi keyboard on which I'm using the default factory preset #17. In most of the VST synths I'm using, the two top right knobs are defaulted to cutoff and resonance...

So my question is: When I'm changing the cutoff and res on the track that is armed, is it also changing the cutoff/res on the other tracks?

Cheers

If they're set to monitor the same keyboard on the same midi channel - yes.

Simple question: Do you notice them being changed?

Yeah I thought I did... Now it is confirmed.

Is there anyway to have them only work when the track is armed?

What if I mapped them using MIDI Learn? Would I be right on saying that then the problem would be that if I wanted to control cutoff/res on multiple VST's, I'd have to use more knobs (and I only have so many)?

Cheers

If you only want it to work when the track is armed - you cannot use the remote mapping system.

Yes - you only have so many knobs on your controller. But most of them offer several presets/programs. You could set it so that the controller sends both different CCs and on different channels for different presets. Problem solved. Few knobs lasting for very long.

Thanks again for the response... You'll have to excuse my ignorance! How do I do that?

That I don't know.

Did you get any manuals with all your gear? Check your controller's manual. It's in there.
