looking 4 - searchable database of 1 word samples...

Post by The Phat Conductor » Mon Jul 30, 2007 10:50 pm

i'm doing this live album this weekend and i want to make one of those cutup hiphop style intros where it says a bunch of stuff using different sample sources for each word or phrase. i've got a bunch of hiphop acapellas and such but i really really don't want to spend a ton of time cutting them all up. it's a real pain.

if anyone knows of a sample database of this sort of thing i'd be really interested to hear about it.

I've been looking for a while for a place to download phonemes (the smallest chuck of verbal language), load a bunch of those us and let them play randomly, instant speaking in tongues, could be cool.

anyone?

wanna know how its done? ok. use a google site search operator on ohhla.com

i.e. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rlz= ... tnG=Search

that gives you some track names. then use your hip hop knowledge to know if there was an acapella, and use yer torrents or oink or whatever. then all you need is serato, skills and an ear for not being an uptight honky no-rhythm-having douchebag

I can't remember it right now, but there is a website that does this for you automatically. You type in a phrase, and it generates audio for you based on a samples of music. They're not acapella, but it's still really, really cool.

I'm sorry, but I can't find the link for the life of me. It's worth spending some time googling for though.

you dont have to use the whole phrase, you could use just one word then everybody get skunked could turn into everybody, the guy wanted one word, i offered a suggestion which might or might not work for him

its not the original material that counts, its what you do with it!

hence the same reason why bad songs can have amazing remixes!

and you can try and shoot me if you want :P but youll have to get past my tragically lame uber-generic bullshit samples first

I understand you don't want to put tomuch energy into this but unfortunately you're going to have to

download the samples, dig some crates, buy some hip hop albums

then, well, start cutting and pasting homeboy

fair do's but this particular niche is NOT easy and getting it wrong sounds WRONG beyond all possible comprehension to anyone who 'knows'

how to do it right = Spinbad, Revolution etc

I can only imagine how long Spinbads mixtape intros take to compile. Weeks of work for seconds of final audio. A true master, dedicated to the cause, overflowing with an encyclopediacal knowledge of hip hop history.
