For some stupid reason, Digidesign are still locking their DAW software to hardware. So Pro Tools LE will only work with Digi hardware, and Pro Tools M-Powered will only work with M-Audio stuff.
So if you have a Tascam unit, like I do, you cannot use Pro Tools.
Digidesign... pfft... What an absolute abortion of a company. Every single other DAW software that I know of lets you use whatever hardware you have.

That's bollocks. If you want to make money from software, get a dongle. Don't limit it to a soundcard. A dongle would provide the same protection - Cubase 4 hasn't been cracked, Logic 7 hasn't been cracked. Safe to say that no one will manage it with the current protection scheme.Meef Chaloin wrote:stupid or clever?
seems the way forward if you actually wanna make some money from your software
So why prevent prospective users from buying into the software. Digi should do a software only version, which comes with whatever dongle protection the former 2 are using, and open up Pro Tools to the hobbyist market.
Very little actual work involved in doing that.

No they haven't. A bit of research and you'll discover that all the Cubase 4 releases are fake, and I can't find anything about Logic 7 being cracked. You're gonna have to prove they've been cracked, pal. To my knowledge, they haven't. The last version of Cubase to be cracked was SX3.4.33 wrote:cubase 4 hasn't been cracked??? logic 7 hasn't been cracked????yes they have!
You're talking out of your paphole. If you have proof and don't want to post it here, you can send it to me via a PM and I'll validate it.Wikipedia wrote:Cubase SX V1.0 introduced the use of cross-platform USB dongles combined with a system of code encryption licensed from Syncrosoft However, this protection has been successively broken for all versions of Cubase, up to Cubase SX 3.1, in spite of all Steinberg's efforts. The copy protection for Cubase SX3 did manage to survive unbroken for 9 months after its release. As of July 2007, the copy protection for Cubase 4 has managed to avoid being cracked.

I can't find proof of Pro Tools LE being cracked either.
Point being... dongles work. So digi could easily adopt the same format that Apple and Steiny have, still protect their software, and open it up to a wider userbase.
I would love to use Pro Tools. But I don't want to get rid of my Tascam FW1804. I would probably get something else if I could afford it, but in my price range, it was the best device available.
