Importance of Soundcard?

Post by abletondummy » Thu Aug 30, 2007 12:43 pm

I was thinking of moving from a desktop to a laptop but very few laptops seem to come with soundcards.

I have come across numerous posts referring to the importance of having a good soundcard to get the most out of Live.

Am I missing something?

Virtually every laptop will have onboard stereo sound, some better than others.

Once it's plugged into a typical house PA, with typical club acoustics and noise, the quality from decent onboard sound will be indistinguishable from a dedicated soundcard, especially to your typical clubgoer.

If you do want better quality, or more ins/outs (cueing, surround, etc), just use a USB or Firewire external soundcard.
