How is the Xone going to help somebody sync a turn table to ableton live?

Sonic...

Honestly I think you are presenting your question backwards. The only way you are going to get a turntable to sync to ableton live is by doing it by hand.

If, on the other hand you want to sync ableton live to your turntable you have a few options. You can use the tap tempo from ableton live to attempt to match the beat playing on the record for starters...

You may also find that a device like the korg kaoss pad, the new sx/mx electribes that detect beats, or other software/hardware that could process a signal from a playing record may be able to generate a midi signal to send to live.

I hope that gets you started, there are a ton of posts in the forum on this topic, good luck.

If you paypal me $19.99 I'll sell you a single copy of "Pitch Slider" and for only $29.99 I'll send you one for each table! What a bargain! Before sending the money, however, check and see because your turntables may already have the "pitchslider" upgrade.

har har.

There is a company called "Red Sound" out of the UK (i think) that sells a peice of hardware called a BeatXtractor or something like that. What it does is generate a midi-clock based off of an audio signal (i.e. it could take mixer output and generate a midi-clock based off this audio signal). Live can then sync itself to this external midi clock.

This creates an effortless syncing of Live to your turntables (you still have to beat match the turntables to Live when mixing the other way....)

For a free solution... You tap along to the turntables playing a record to set the project tempo in Live. Then you play whatever you want in Live. Usually when you trigger the Live clip, it will not be right in sync with the turntables and you will use the up and down arrows of the keyboard to pitch up or down for a second or two to get the clip lined up.

Then you will usually have to type in a correction to the project tempo when you get it figured out, or even adjust the turntable pitch slightly.

When I am doing this, I find that I am usually about 1bpm off on my tap along tempo...

Let me know how you get on with this...
