Is there a way to get more than 20 clip slots in one track in clip view? Like can I have 30 or 40?

Insert additional Scenes (rows) and you'll have all the slots you'll ever need.

but the answer is actually "yes". but to ask a question like that means he hasn't even attempted to find answers for himself yet.

Thanks dCross!!

"but to ask a question like that means he hasn't even attempted to find answers for himself yet." - Johnisfaster

Johnisfaster. Consider this: I did look in the manual for it. I did look in the drop down menus, but hadn't considered inserting a scene would do it because I was looking for "add clip" or something. So for me, the manual, pdf and printed, and even google and a cursory search in this forum didn't do it for me. And while I may have read the exact passage at one time or another in the manual, when I needed to remember it, it escaped me, and looking it up to reference it didn't yield the information easily enough apparently.

And here's the key, since I did try those methods mentioned above and didn't get it, should I be afraid to ask the question because of a pompous reply such as yours will *assume* I didn't even attempt to find the answer myself?

You have a large number of posts, I hope for those recipients' sake you are more helpful and less arrogant than in my case. I hope you are actually interested in helping people rather than just boosting your own reply stats in order to stroke your ego and appear as an authority in this forum.

End of rant, apologies if off base. Thanks again dCross!

I get what the problem was, the term scene is understandibly foreign to someone who is new to live. so I apologize.

the question seemed so silly when you asked it that I sorta saw it as "how do I play a clip?" or "how do I change the volume of a track" but you were just dealing with the ableton language barrier.

totally not what I'm about just so you know. I just found the question absurd but didn't take into consideration the termonology confusion over the word "scene" so my reaction was "are you kidding me?"

my post count is mostly based on me boring bored in hotel rooms actually.

I know i may be out of line for this post but...would it not have been better to not post at all if you found this question "Absurd" ? don't get me wrong mate you have the right to post what ever you feel, and the only reason i post this is, i remember how i felt asking my first simple questions way back when on the Cubase forums and then getting blasted apart for asking. luckily everyone here on this forum have been much friendlier. just my thoughts on the matter. (end of my 0.2 cents)

Most certainly not. Everyone needs to be told to RTFM once in a while.
Suit #1: I mean, have you got any insight as to why a bright boy like this would jeopardize the lives of millions?
Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.

actually both of you are right. I shouldn't be so pissy but I tend to do that when I have a few drinks (you could probably start a book on all my drunken ableton rants)
and also sometimes people need to be told to read the manual. so both of you are right. either way I appologize for my rudeness.

Q. How many Ableton users does it take to change a lightbulb?

A. All of them.

1 to ask how to do it. A 2nd to exclaim about RTFM and then the rest of the userbase to discuss if the 2nd user had a lack of manners and if it was warrented or not before the 2nd user apologizes due to a misunderstanding of the terminology involved.
