Korg Kontrol49 Setting problem.

Post by StreetSoul » Sun Sep 09, 2007 9:12 am

Hi!

I bought myself a used Korg Kontrol49 for a couple of weeks ago but i dont know how to set it up properly. The manual that came along is not up to date and on the korg homepage they have a template for live but its for the version 4 i think (Whats up with that KORG!?).

I've tried to set it up and got the controls to work so i can mapp the sliders in the mixer to the sliders att the kontrol49. Saved that as a "scene" (the kontrol49 has 12 memoryslots they call "scene"). So far so good.

But now i want to change the "scene" so i can control a vstplugin with the sliders, pots and pads. But even if i switch the scene, it still transmits midi messages to ableton and when i move the sliders to try to learn midi to stylus rmx it just move the mixersliders i live?!

This is just a question of settings. But how should i set it up. I've tried to search the forum, read the manual and tried to experiment with the setting but nothing works?

Another thing i'd like to do is to assign tha drumpads to the transport button and it works fine except that when i've mapped them. It also maps to the claviatur. It seems like the drumpads and clav share the same midi cc message or something. I know that i can send on different ports but dont know how. PLEASE help me someone!?

hey. yeah. i don't like how korg has never kept the Kontrol49 up to date and it is kind difficult to learn. That's why I use my ReMOTE SL for most of my mappings.

But you can change the MIDI CH of a scene by doing [SCENE]-->[MIDI CH] and can also change the port of a slider, encoder, etc. by doing SETTING-->PORT

All right. Thanks. I think im gonna try that. I havnt done my homework in midiclass so im not that selfconfident with more advanced settings. but i try it anyway! :P

One thing that bugs me is that they talk about "kontrol49 port a", "kontrol49 port B" and so on in the manual but in both cubase and live 6 (and other apps aswell) it just says "USB- sounddevice", "USB- sounddevice [2]" and so on. why the hell do it have to be so complicated. Im very intressested in a remote sl if i dont get this thing to work! :/

Did u own a kontrol49 before your remote sl? Im so confused with the setting under the preferences/midipage in live.

On top they have "control surface" and they have the kontrol 49 as a option. Then u have to pick a input and output? what are thoose for? and what am i going to take?

Under input i have:

USB- sounddevice
USB- sounddevice [2]
USB- sounddevice [3]

Under output i only have:

USB- sounddevice
USB- sounddevice [2]

(not 3)

And then under midiports i once again have the same options for input and output med here i have to decide witch are going to be on and witch are going to be on under "track", "sync" and "remote".

I have No clue what to choose. I've allready choosed "USB- sounddevice [2]" for the claviatur. and then i guess the sliders are on the remote side? probably on "USB- sounddevice" or "USB- sounddevice [2]". But are it anymore options that have to be on? Can i click everything "on" ?

I'd be for ever greatful if u could help me solve this!

hmmmmm...

well the problem you're describing with the USB sounddevices does not happen to me. In my MIDI Preferences, I get Korg Kontrol 49 Ports A, B, and CTRL. I turn on Port B in Live because that's what all the sliders and encoders are coming through by default for Live.

It might be a problem particular to your setup. So what are you using. I'm You can see my setup on my sig if it's similar. but you should definitely post your setup. Like what MIDI Interface you are using.

This usually happens when the KORG USB driver isn't installed properly (mine used to have the same problem!!). Are you in windows? If so, make sure you download the latest USB windows driver from the Korg site and follow its install instructions carefully (don't scan then, read them!). For some reason, this is not made obvious in the manual and is not installed with the Editor Librarian software for the Korg.

Also - note that once you install the driver the Kontrol49 must always be plugged into THAT USB port which it was when the driver was installed... otherwise it won't work, weird, but that's what Korg says in their install file.

Then read the "Application Settings" section of the Template Scene Readme in Korg's Ableton Scene data Zip file. It will specifically describe how to setup your inputs, syncs, etc...

....try that and when I had your problem, then I was all fixed! :D
