Live + MPD 24 + Can't Figure Out MIDI Connecting = PLS HELP!

I'm not MIDI saavy at all. I'm teaching myself how to use Live via an MPD 24 with no real MIDI experience. I've used the Lessons provided in my software, but still can't seem get things moving correctly. For instance when I hit a pad the MIDI indicator blinks, which is a good sign. However when I go to the MIDI map window to route some sound, I'm left stuck in my tracks, pun intended. Can someone, anyone please give me an idea on how to map a song, I'd happily start there, to a single MPD 24 pad?
