Quest for 'real' electronic music...
Quest for 'real' electronic music...
I spend far too much time listening for some type of electronic music that gives me the same passion and buzz as the 'traditional' funk/disco/jazz/rock I've been listening to for decades, something that Live would be great for doing live with a real drummer, combined with visuals and lighting. Minimum scratching, vocoder, filter sweeps, or other overused cheese... and no mindless kick on every beat, or soulless techno/drum 'n bass...
Pandora just did it for me... "Stop & Panic" by Cirrus. As a drummer, the funky/grooving real drums do it for me.
Any similar stuff out there to listen to?

I posted a question this morning that my fellow ableton brethren and sistren (is that a word?) never even replied to.
I need some help here. I want to study and listen to people putting together upbeat funky rock infused sequenced material. Give it up!

Have you heard the Down To The Bone stuff?hambone1 wrote:I spend far too much time listening for some type of electronic music that gives me the same passion and buzz as the 'traditional' funk/disco/jazz/rock I've been listening to for decades, something that Live would be great for doing live with a real drummer, combined with visuals and lighting. missed your post, but reading it it sounds like a pretty broad request, dunno what to recommend.DrXparaMental wrote:Moody wrote:Squarepusher, Aphex Twin?

You never replied to my last posted question to you. Surly the hip here can turn me on to bands & artists that are similar to the Beck - Guero album? meets Aphex Twin. Squarepusher is great but you ain't talkin' much beat there. At least not on Music Is Rotted... (all though I like it!...it's just a bit experimental for this quest)

Is this that broad a request?
yepperooni, it is.
the beats were done by the Dust Brothers who did stuff from Paul's Boutique to Fight Club, Beck toured with the band Le Tigre but they're a bit more punk.
Guero had a remix version out called Guerolito.
I heard one of this new tracks the other day, it was similar in style to Guero.
and the acoustic disc from the Foo Fighter's album 'In Your Honor' captures some of the same somber beauty as Guero.

fascinating, but surely there are other rock oriented hip hop based projects out there. I am especially looking for recent stuff. the one thing I don't get via your post is the "somber beauty" part.Tone Deft wrote:yepperooni, it is.

when i listen to this CD I hear this cutsie and extremely catchy pop rock. Some of the material like this first song on the CD actually rock out pretty good. The tunes I like most are Black Tambourine & Hell Yes. These songs are expertly sequenced with killer tight drum and "real" bass grooves.
Does this get me any closer to my desired mark in terms of a description?
check out Le Tigre, I just listened to their myspace, good shit!! http://www.myspace.com/LeTigre
true. there is a lot of upbeat to that album, I guess I take it as a morning CD. actually I was half thinking of Sea Change, my bad, I was thinking of the two albums at once. Sea Change still looms huge in my heart after the few years it's been out.
