drugs, alcohol, and your music
drugs, alcohol, and your music
I'm sure nobody on here drinks or does drugs but pretend you do to answer this post.
For me I need a clear head when I am writing. I'm far too social when under the influence to concentrate on writing music. I'd drunk dial 911 if they didn't ask so many personal questions and try to meet up.
But I couldn't imagine doing a live show or DJ set completely sober. Actually, I can imagine and I don't like what I see.
You?

On that note….Tone Deft wrote:start sober and finish passed out on the floor with Live still recording and "drive almost full" error on the screen.
I was at a friend's apartment one night and he barely knows Live but I was showing him how to record a song just by punching clips on and off. In the middle of one of his recordings I decided to run down the street to get some smokes. Walking back from the liquor store I jaywalked and a car waayyyyyyy down the street honked and I quickly flashed them my middle finger for a nanosecond. I thought it was somebody being an asshole and pissed off I was jaywalking. WRONG! It was a cop and he didn't appreciate my gesture. He did a screeching u-turn and jumps out of his car like I pulled a gun on him. I sobered up quickly and despite me apologizing and fully cooperating he saw fit to haul me down town for drunk in public. Reason # 36354 to move out of San Jose.
That was about 10:30 at night and I didn't get released until 6:30 the next morning. What was weighing heaviest on my mind? Fuck!!! My friend doesn't know how to stop Live on my computer or that I got hauled off by the police. This was seriously the only thing I was stressed about. Was my stoned ass friend still making the longest remix in history? Did my computer blow up? When I got back to his place he was asleep as well as my computer, but it was on like measure 2,700. why it decided to stop there I have no idea and neither does he.

it's good to jump into one of these before a song writing session.

In the words of Mark from Peep Show:
Listen, .. there are systems for a reason in this world.
Economic stability, interest rates, growth...
Its not all a conspiracy to keep you in little boxes alright?!... It's only the miracle of consumer capitalism that means youre not lying in your own shit, dying at 43 with rotten teeth, and a little pill with a chicken on it is not going to change that..
now come on, FUCK OFF.
i make music when i'm stoned. i am more creative, i can concentrate better, and i have more patience when i'm high. i do sometimes sit down and write when sober just to double check myself and do a quality control. and sometimes doing technical things (like setting up, configuring, patching, etc) can be a bigger PITA. but i would say 85% of my music is made under the influence of marihuana.
maybe one of these days i will find a different muse. nothing else quite does it, though.
