Live video synching
Live video synching
How does Live work synchronizing with video? Is it able to be the “master”, and the video be the slave? The manual talks more of Live being the slave. The video would be able to follow the midi time code? this would be a live performance display uniting video screens and sequencer playback. I’m sorry I know zero about video synching
, the question came from “above” in the company I work for. Thanks for any help!!

O.k. So let's just say that Live's video capabilities leave something to be desired. I'm in the process of scoring a film, using Live to write and record, and then I'm exporting all of the tracks to mix in another DAW. You can use Live to playback quictkimes or avi's by dragging the file directly to the timeline. By treating the video clip just as you would an audio clip, you can trim and move the clip around. The nice part is that you can set a bpm, and then insert warp markers within the video file. You can then (in the clip properties) select for the video clip to act as a "master". This will then adjust the bpm to match the warp markers that you have placed in the video file. This is great for setting up cues, and getting you're project to match the video.
HOWEVER it's been my personal experience that Live crashes incessantly when dealing with video clips, and that the video playback is choppy. For most of the work I just sync to a seperate computer using MTC and playing the video back within Vegas, which supports MTC. For this you would select MTC out within the preferences dialog, and within a supported video playback program set it up to be a slave to MTC.
If you are trying to work with performances, your best bet is syncing to a program like Arkaos or Resolume.

I've complained to Abe's support about this, still waiting for a solution.
Incessant crashes and freezes on my new laptop whenever video is involved; using it live in its current state would give me a heart attack.
