volume fluctuation when i import one my own tracks into Live

Post by kanner » Sun Sep 30, 2007 3:58 pm

when i import one of my own tracks into Live 5, even though it sounds fine when played through Media Player, the volume seems to go up and down on each 4bar loop whilst played in arrangement view, as if the volume has been drawn in a zig-zag motion.

does anyone know what might be the cause of this? ive looked at all my FX, volume and panning controllers, and there is nothing drawn into the arrangement that should have caused this.

any help greatly appreciated

That must mean that there is an arrangement automation involved. Does it happen no matter on which track you drag your file?

(first post edited)

many apologies, iv'e found out the track still plays distorted even in session view, no matter which track i import it to.

i thought that perhaps because it has some quite deep bass on each 4 bar loop that it may have been distorting how the track plays through ableton. yet i have rendered the same track before now, and i had no problems with that version, and the only change i'd made to the new version were additional loops at the end, so as far as i know nothing else was changed.

thanks again

You have used "track" to mean a two different things here, its unclear what exactly you mean.

Sounds to me like you've done the following:

1. made a song in Live
2. rendered it to a wav file
3. maybe converted it to mp3?
4. went back, added some extra loops and effect, re-exported song to version 2
4. imported the first render, and the second render into Live.
5. Warped them both?
6. The first render is OK, the second render has volume issues.

If you have volume issues with a warped file... turn off warp.

Sounds to me like you maybe had extra bass (or sub-bass) in version two that was then perhaps being run through a compressor?

If so, try using CompressorII and turning up the sideEQ, or just running the whole track through shelf EQ, filtering out anything below 60 hz or something.

Heck, just look at the comrpessor's VU meters and see if its reducing the volume every 4 bars.
