can you be more specific in the kind of style you would like to produce? Guys like Tiesto and Sven Vath are pretty far removed from eachother in the terms of the kind of music they represent. (some people would say one presents shit music and the other good music
)
there are as many different techniques as there are styles and producers. If you're new to the genre as a whole you have a lot of listening to do before even thinking of producing.
Get yourself familiarised with the music, and see what you like and what you don't.
some of my current and old-time favourites:
Aril Brikha
Gabriel & Dresden
John Digweed
Sven Vath (and stuff on his Cocoon label)
Underworld
Orbital
Fluke
Leftfield
Peter Horrevorts
Trentemoller
Paul Kalkbrenner
Booka Shade
James Holden
Michael Mayer
Nathan Fake
Technasia
Swayzak
Guy Gerber
anything on Kompakt label
for some history lessons check out such classic dance albums as Underworld's Dubnobasswithmyheadman, Orbital's Brown Album, Leftfield's Leftism, Fluke's Risotto...
and of course before that: Kraftwerk
(better stick to the good stuff and not be tainted by the tiesto/paul van dyk garbage...)

For trance you definately need to check out:
M.I.K.E. http://www.mike.be/
Above & Beyond http://www.aboveandbeyond.nu
Ferry Corsten http://www.ferrycorsten.com/
Markus Schulz http://www.markusschulz.com/
They are probably my favorite producers.

And yeah, evilevilevil can tell you which cables to use for trance, for instance.
i was not guiding him towards trance but away from it. he said he wanted to get into trance, i told him to head for the hills of house instead. a much nicer view will be found there.chrysalis33rpm wrote:WTF dude, hip hop to trance?
