In my opinion it's way too expensive. Plus you have to be a programmer. When it arrives it's basically a useless electronic brick. For what they charge you should be able to do something, anything with it as soon as you plug it in.

i have ctually plyed with this in person and you can touch the screen to contro things like faders and clips with the touch of your fingers with sequencing on live. forget about it.

ABleton its not designed for take control with touch screen directly over the screen, try take control opf ableton directly with touch screen its really bad idea....

i have a lemur, and to me, it's worth every penny.

it really depends on how you like to create, it's a great tool.

You can download the Free Jazzeditor, and open up templates from that site

huh ? Nothing forces Lemur users to program über-geeky smart sequencers. Sometimes simpler interfaces are way more useful, and they're really not that hard to make. You can actually try the JazzEditor from their website, you'll see that it's far form rocket science.

Alright, I stand somewhat corrected but it still sounds like you drop $3000 and it's easy to get it to do what a $200 controller can do. Beyond that it's going to take a little more science and thought. I'm just going by what I've seen on here with people "trying to wrap their head around programming with max/msp".

I'm not arguing that it isn't beautiful or innovative. I'm just questioning how many people would have it totally revolutionize the way they write and perform music to the tune of $3,000. It might be money better spent elsewhere if you weren't so hypnotized by the eye candy.

Well, I'll tell you why I love mine so much. As Beats points out, it is easy to replicate a $200 gadget. Now, the Lemur allows you to create your own version of a $200 gadget that works even more specifically for what you want. And, you can create hundreds of them, all designed to do something specific.

So, as a frequent traveler, spending many nights a month in a hotel, being able to bring my laptop, 1 controller the size of an etch-a-sketch that can act as, say, 35 different controllers, that's a shitload of control in a small, portable package. Same goes for playing live. Look at some of the Stephan Bodzin videos, you'll see that he's got about 30 templates for his live set. So 30 different controllers in one little square.

30 x $200 = $6000.

That's just one example of the value.

i tried playing with live on one of those hp touchscreen computers and it was completely useless. i mean, some things worked, but others were so erratic that one little touch could be completely disastrous. for example, trying to draw a crude envelope would result in quite unexpected behavior, with the envelope being extended 10 measures farther than what you were trying to do. it just seemed to me that live was not optimized for that sort or interface.

i would love for that to change, or for me to be wrong. maybe i just hadn't set up everything correctly.

I think if you're using it to create a new interactive way of performing, then yes, it cna be worth it. If you're getting it just to have some cool looking midi controller than does nothing different from a BCF200, then no, it's a real waste of money.

Yes, I agree with this.

The Lemur is for someone who wants much much more then just some faders
and pots.

Also the Dexter firmware will be available for Lemur users soon.
So it is also a dedicated DAW controller (unfortunately not for Live, but
for logic, sonar, cubase etc..)
