New LiveSet - I'm standing on shoulders of giants

I played a live set of mostly my own music last night at Zubar in Dallas. Here is the set:

I'm rather proud of this one, but as the title of the post suggests, I would be nowhere if not for the giants on whose shoulders this creativity stands. So, in no particular order, MAD PROPS TO:

1. beats me - we collaborated on the second track, and the third track is all his.

2. The Covert Operators - if you can count the number of patches, samples, loops, etc, that I used and continue to use from these fellas...well I'll send you a prize of some sort.

3. Puremagnetik - inspiration comes in many forms, especially esoteric patches, clips, and noises where you least expect it. Nice work, Micah!

4. The creators of Sytrus, Sylenth1, Zero Vector, and the grand-pubah of techno - Microtonic.

5. Last and certainly not least, Father Livecut and Mother dblueGlitch. I'm not worthy...

Standing on the shoulders of giants is the name of an Oasis album, and it is also what is engraved around the outside of a £2 coin.

Here in bristol, it has become slang for a Sovereign ring - ie "Look at the shoulders on that!", will be heard when a chav walks past dripping in gold rings...

Just thought you should know...

Well, the techno sound is still pretty underground in Dallas. Couple that with the fact that Halloween night parties were the night before, and you get a pretty small crowd. But they were really into the mix, and the reaction was very good. The DJs that were in the crowd seemed impressed that it was all original music, and that it was all being played off Live.

I knew about the Oasis album...didn't know about the slang

Actually, this set isn't called "Standing on the Shoulders of Giants"...I'm actually using the phrase to give props to those without whom this set couldn't have come together. If anything, I'd call it wallpaper preview, in reference to the album most of these songs will appear in.

Hope you liked it as much as I liked producing it

Sounds spankin' Nebs! You've done some really unexpected things here with growling stomach sounds and electronic farts.

Seriously though, it sounds nice and rich. Was this pretty much a DJ set, or were you playing some of this live with scenes and tweezing and such?

Thanks dude...I was going for a farty-theme!

What I did was I rendered a basic body of the songs, chopped up into parts, so I could trigger various parts of the song as needed...Intros and Mixouts for blending, Body of th song for playing, etc. I triggered those for the DJ portions and did my crossfades, eq-ing, etc...your typical DJ stuff. Then for each song, there was some parts that could be performed, like the 303 sound in the last song. I rendered those as clips to be triggered while the body was playing, and I performed effects on those, like filtering. I also had 4 sends set up for various glitching and reverbing effects.

I finished a track last week that I called "on the shoulders of giants" interestingly enough. it's on my myspace if you care to hear it. It's a small world though.

Nice songs, bro! Love both of them up on your myspace. Interestingly, I can prolly tell the Zebra sounds...great smooth basses and warbly noises. Nice work!
