Play is unstable....

Post by segeke » Thu Apr 22, 2004 2:18 am

When playing a sound for a long time, the CPU gauge of Live increases periodically for a moment. A play becomes unstable then. These are the condition similar to the time of CPU overloading. However, this happens only by playing one loop. Is this the problem of a sound card? My environment is PowerBook G4. It is 1.25GHz 1G RAM Live 3.04 Firewire410.

does the disk overload 'D' light come on at the glitch?

is it at the end of the loop?

'D' Light

The case where 'D' Light lights up, and 'D' Light may not light up.
They happen at random.
For example, when CPU meter is playing just over or below 10%.
CPU meter exceeds 30% at random.
And a play becomes unstable.

Thanx

yeah same here. been happening since version 3 it seems. i don't think it's related to your soundcard since it happens to me no matter what card i use, even the built in 1/8" jack on my PowerBook. i'll randomly get a spike in CPU that ranges anywhere from 30% to 250%, during which audio is stuttering and awful. only lasts a few seconds then it goes back. doesn't seem to matter how many clips or fx i'm using or whether i use the internal HD or my firewire HD. i am a Mac tech so i know how to set up my machine for audio. i can't figure this one out. i am using a Rev A 12" PowerBook 867mhz, stock RAM, latest Panther build. maybe it's got something to do with the AluBooks? whatever it is i hope it gets fixed. i have shows coming up, i can't bring this mess on stage.

I've tried panther 10.3.2 for two days on my alubook 1 ghz. The performances with the latest versions of Live and Digital performer were horrible so I quickly got back to 10.2.7 and everything is working fine (apart from kontakt which often stucks notes). In panther, I also got those '442% cpu spikes' very unpredictably.

well that sucks.

i think we all know we'll never get our AltiVec code, but could we at least get the app to run on the current OS? i'm sure Ableton got the Panther SDK long ago. wtf?

I wish that it is not the problem of a sound card.
I am afflicted by this problem from OS10.3.1 or subsequent ones.
When it stores a clip in RAM, this happens.
Live 2.x did not have this problem.

thanx
