I'm new to Live, and am interested in using it to trigger sound effects and
other sound for theater. Is it possible to line up a series of cues
and trigger in any sequence and overlap WITHOUT cutting off a sound that's already playing? My immediate problem is I have a show with multiple gunshots that need to happen on cue, and I want the operator to have a midi keyboard set up with LIVE to trigger the different guns as needed,
but each gunshot needs to play it's complete envelope, not get cut off when the next shot fires.

Easy!
Yea it should do it real easy...
Just set up each clip you might have overlap on separate tracks...etc.
map your clips to your keys. and you should be good to go.
Just pay attention to your quantization settings for each clip and your master.
Maybe some other folks have some more direct experience with this application can offer more
Jeeze ya should be able to do some really cool things for theatre production, sound effects and soundscapes
and music ofcourse
Peace,

theatre cues
i've been using live extensively in theatre work, both to sequence music and cues, and also for the performance itself.
you can set up each cue to trigger from the keyboard, or use combinations of cues by using scenes. either way, this allows you to work with very flexible timing and volume in sync with stage action. i've been using an extenal midi controller to give my total control over parameters during the cuing process.
use the control-e function to remove slots in scenes where you want to have a clip play over another scene cue.
also, i have found live to be 100% reliable in this regard.
