Monitors on 7.1 Sound Card

Post by philwilshaw » Tue Nov 06, 2007 2:37 pm

Hi,

I've been using live 6 for a couple of months for production, and I'm starting to get the hang of it at last! trouble is, I can't really EQ my tracks properly as I'm currently using a dolby 7.1 sound system and sound card. (Creative SB Audigy ZS 2). Obviously I need some unbiased monitor speakers, so what's my best option?:

1 - Add a seperate monitor and amp system to my existing sound card run out of its headphone jack (easier than mucking about with the insides of my PC, but will it produce good quality sound?)

2 - buy a new soundcard and monitor/amp setup dedicated to stereo monitor speakers?

3 - something else?

I think my max budget is about £500.

I should also point out that I'm thinking about getting a mac in a few months, and I'd like whatever i go for to work with that as well. I don't mind if I have to have both systems on at once for it to work though.

Apologies if the answer to this seems blindingly obvious, or I haven't given enough info, I'm pretty new to this whole scene.

Cheers for any help anyone can provide,

Phil Wilshaw
