my friend picked up a sh-101 for 20 euros at a recycling centre... in mint condition.
pity he has a slight drinking problem and well ... I now own the thing
but unfortunately I don't have a answer to your problem but in your pants I'd call your local Roland repair shop .. atleast here in Finland they still fix vintage gear.

First congrats! yer in sonic bliss when you get it runnin' right
Gearslutz.com all the way...some recent 101 post there too.
A common flaw is the power switch.
And just in case, the VCO MOD slider bends the tuning (of coarse), as well as the rippin' resonance - especially audible in bass.
Like anything of coarse it takes a while to get to know...so funny how people dismiss it cuzz they havn't tuned into it themselves.
Also there's a yahoo sh101 user group.
Enjoy!

Send it to me and I'll fix it. It may take a year or five.cosmosuave wrote:Does anyone have info or links on how to calibrate the tuning?

A couple of other options for those who're jealous of Cosmosuave... Personally, I'm sticking with software for the time being, though I do miss my old Andromeda from time to time.

I've seen those on ebay actually (I watch ebay constantly for deals on almost every piece of gear) but I'm jealous of the deal cosmo got on it.M. Bréqs wrote:http://cgi.ebay.ca/Classic-Roland-SH-10 ... dZViewItem

though if it's not working right I guess I'm not as jealous. and I do have a 202 which I can pretend takes the place...... (no it doesn't)

Update.....
Picked it up and it works...
Few issues...
Dead Key
Missing battery cover
Couple of missing slider caps and a knob
Pitchbender snapped off
Tuning needs to be calibrated accross all keys
3 position Trnaspose switch broke
Really filthy
Will call Roland today to get some parts if avaialble... Need to completely disaassemble the synth becasue it is filthy and it actually stinks (cigarette smoke).. Regardless of the tuning issues it sounds great... I may construct a new pitchbend lever out of some persplex or wood for a custom look... The missing battery cover is a drag cos it looks like shit with out it...
Hey can't complain for $100... I'll post some pics of the restoration....

hey i just picked one of these up today in T.O. (450$), it had some issues, one was a dead key, and the other was broken output jack. I popped it open, and made some solders and removed the keyboard panel and removed the key, and it just turned out the contact was either dirty or not seated properly. After i put it back together it worked perfectly, and cosmetically the synth is mint, and came with a flight case and keytar grip so i think it was well worth the cash.
if you are going to diy the dead key i can give you some instructions/advice if you want.
oh and regarding the tuning, i noticed a few areas that were tuning screws or something on the main circuit board, i think there was 2 of them maybe if you open urs up and turn them it might help...but then again i dont know anything about tuning analog synths so maybe u shouldnt listen to me

the keyboards seem to go fairly often on these.
when i bought mine back in the late 90's it was mint. Since then i've had to take it to the shop to fix dead keys twice. I have two dead keys now, but i'm not going to bother with them.
I have a kenton midi to cv unit that makes the thing much more usable and i don't have to worry about the keys.
so i would say, buy a midi to cv box, and see if it still has tuning issues when you play it via midi. It probably will, but you'll want to have the midi to cv anyway.

I managed to get the tuning/scaling sorted out and it is now in tune... Still have the dead key and cleaned the contacts and the measure fine with a meter so I am going to replace the switching diode for that key low F#...
Anyway if it does not work that will be no loss cos we all know that the black keys are only for tarnce..
