Wheres best new years eve night in New Zealand gonna be?

Post by timit » Wed Nov 14, 2007 10:38 am

Hello.

Hope noone has a problem with me asking for new years advice here, it is the general forum..

I've just arrived in New Zealand. Amazed how lush it all is, all around me, all the time.

I'm in queenstown at the mo, not much problem finding happy cheesy party nights out, but would like to take in some decent dance music at some point, 'specially on new years eve.

Does anyone have any recommendations of clubs or festivals with some suitably lush electro/techno/breaks to suit?

I was in NZ for new year a few years back - my advice would be to get the hell out of Queenstown if you want some real music! QT nightlife seemed to me to be tailored mainly towards getting drunk in rather ordinary bars. You're best bet would probably be to head to Wellington or Auckland. I spent NY in Auckland at a house party but there was loads of stuff going on in town. And I went to a couple of wicked gigs in Wellington, too, in the run up to xmas. I managed to find an OK club in Christchurch when I was there in November as well, but the big cities are probably your best bet.

Anyway, enough from this Brit, there must be some Kiwis here! :)

hi

i spent new years eve for the millenium at a party on a beach in gisborne, purely because gisborne (though im english and not a kiwi so i dont know for sure) is one of the most easterly places in nz so you get to see the sunrise first. if thats what you're after

If you're still in Queenstown, check out Subculture, 14 Church St (Under Monteiths). The best sound system in town and guaranteed no-cheese music policy.

OK, it's also owned and run my very good friend, Downtown Brown, and we've played there heaps, so I'm biased, but it's still the best club in QT. You won't be disappointed.

cheers! :D
