Live 7 - pitch/transpose midi slices?

Post by buckman » Fri Nov 16, 2007 9:37 am

Just trying the live 7 beta and its amazing!

However been cutting up loops etc with the new "Slice to Midi track" feature that exports all to simplers.

There are the Macro controls to control ADSR etc for all the samples/slices on all the keys, but is there a pitch??

how do you select 1 x pitch to control all the slices at once, ie: to get your cut up sample to slow down/speed up, and in key to soemthing else?

Is there a global macro wheel for pitch/transpose?? or do you have to go into EVERY Simpler individually and alter each one the same? surely this would take ages?!?!

Thanks

Hi,

There are two things you can do.

- First thing is, you can create an additional Slicing method, in the form of a Drum Rack with an empty Si|ampler, and MIDI/Audio devices in the chain, and save it in Library/Defaults/Slicing. The method is better described here:
http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=75978

- If you like the current Slicing method, but still want to adjust the transpose for all of the Simplers, do it on one of them, and right click the Transpose value box, choose "Copy value to siblings (xx)", it will copy the value to the Transpose of all the "xx" Simplers present in the Drum Rack.

Kind regards,

ok thanks - have tried that but its a bit long winded, and the "transpose to all siblings" didnt work at teh start, then pitched the other simplers at different pitches to the root key that i was working on?

Wouldnt it be easier to have a single macro knob to do the whole batch of simplers in one go?

Also when it changes pitch it speeds up/slows down, can we get this to work with transpose like a warped sample so that it reatins the BPM but just moves up and down keys??

How could i achieve that?

As Amuary mentioned, look at the thread on how to make Defaults. It will allow you to create a preset that can be selected when slicing. The default will hold any parameters you defined.
You set it up for 1 Simpler, save as a default. When slicing Live will do the rest for you.

The post was in a beta section that has now been removed.
Maybe this article will clear some things up: http://www.thecovertoperators.org/Artic ... lt-presets
In the Free Downloads section, You'll find a Live Pack with 25 additional Slicing presets.
