Instruments change presets automatically?

Post by Stankluv » Mon Dec 03, 2007 12:10 am

On a couple of my VST instruments when I tweak any parameter or change any of the presets and then hit play, it suddenly jumps to another preset. And it jumps to the same preset every time no matter what I change before I hit play. It started doing this in the middle of working on a project, all of my instruments are legit and have worked fine since I began using them. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the plugins but no luck.

If anyone can help I'd appreciate it :?:

It does it even if I open a completely new project and drop in just the instrument. Its driving me crazy because I know I didnt change any settings that could cause this.

Someone please tell me what the heck is goin on please!?

Chances are that it's what your instrument is playing, i.e. the MIDI clip. Double-click on the clip and check the Program settings: Bank/Sub-bank/Program. Make sure they are all set to "None".

This foxed me for a while because I tend to generate MIDI clips in other software and import them into Live. They always had program change data in them, thereby sending instructions to the VSTi to change programs upon launch of the clip.

In fact - I only realized this when reading about "dummy clips" on this forum: with dummy clips you can add a blank MIDI clip to a separate track and set the clip's Program settings to actually force a change in presets on an instrument playing on another track. You send the MIDI output to that track and the desired VSTi. It's something I couldn't live without now!
