converting live 7 track into live 6

how is this done? all my instruments and such are the same as in live 6, but it wont let me open it.

I doubt there is backward compatibility. There should be in my opinion because some users may need such a feature.

With the exception of major stuff like Office, software is rarely backward compatible. Upgrades go in one direction only, sorry. You will probably have to render/resample to audio tracks/loops and import these into 6.

I haven't tried this, but you might be able to drag the individual tracks using the browser. Try starting Live 6 and see how much you can access from your Live 7 set using the browser.
