VST multi channel problems

Post by mj17 » Mon Dec 03, 2007 6:43 am

Noticed this problem in Live 6:

When running any multi channel plugin, all midi is routed to channel one, so if i'm playing on channel 5 or something from my midi keyboard it still comes across as channel 1 in Live and then that gets sent to the plugin...playing the wrong thing!

This is still un-fixed in Live 7 !!!

Yes, you can work around by making a track for every single channel, and routing the midi to the "track" number of the VST channel you want to use, ...but that's just totally backwards, and time consuming.

FURTHERMORE, Live still does not let me enter text into input data fields of VST plugins ( for example i'm using Battery 3 and can't use the keyboard to input values...and yes i have the "midi keyboard" aspect of live turned off)

These are pretty standard things to anyone using plugins, and pretty big deal breakers....am I missing something?? Please help.

Hopefully i'm not missing some simple little checkbox somewhere, here's the things im using.

E-mu Xboard 61
Live 7 demo (previously Live 6 Lite)
Proteus X
Battery 3

Help is greatly appreciated, wishing to upgrade to full version, but trying to get these little things figured out. =)

P.S. - All the previously mentioned things work fine in Cubase =\ I would love for them to work in Live...

No, Live doesnt pass key commands to plugins.
As to your 1st question, i havent tried it, but i think one can configure the new 'external instrument' to work with multi-out plugins using just one channel.
Search the forum for external instrument. (or the manual, maybe?).

?

Every other host I use makes you use separate MIDI tracks for each channel of a multichannel plugin...

actually no. Cubase records midi channels, which means you can have one midi track with all your mutliple channels, therefore deleting the need to have each separate channel a separate tracke....

reason its a huge problems is because i cant have a midi keyboard with 16 channels, press a button for channel 5, and have that channel play the correct instrument in my plugin...it puts it on channel one always!!!

All im saying is when I enable the track with my plugin to accept midi, it should take whatever midi channel im sending and put that through to the plugin, INSTEAD...it dumps everything to channel one before routing it to the plugin, regardless of what channel is incoming....understand??
