Do you imagine yourself controlling Live tempo with your turntable?
Do you imagine yourself Scratching audio Clips?
Do you imagine drawing automation curves with a turntable?
Do you imagine scratching your volume, knobs or wathever midi control?
It could be possible in great part nowadays! continue reading...
Today Ableton Live is working with cycling'74 altogether.
http://www.cycling74.com/
Cycling is a Group who develop MaxMsp (instead of another cool appz like jitter):
http://www.cycling74.com/products/maxmsp
Ms Pinky is a Timecode control system made in MaxMsp:
http://www.mspinky.com/WreckedSystem_Overview.html
She has her own Software Development Kit (SDK) to do possible the integration of Vinyl control in another MaxMsp developments or another programs...
http://www.mspinky.com/Developers.html
Also the Ms. Pinky vinyl has a VST called Pinky Pluggo:
http://www.mspinky.com/WreckedSystem_Pluggo.html
This app make possible insert songs in the Live set but only like one shot but...
If you want to mix them all you must to sync live with the inbound audio but...
If you want to control the tempo with vinyl control?
well you have another solution:
You could use Circular Logic inTime injuction with a audio2midi aplication
http://www.circular-logic.com
This aplication caught midi triggers or audio and translate to midi clock signal it done possible control time in Live with incoming audio.
It could be possible (in theory almost) to setup:
Ms. Pinky vinyl controlling pinky pluggo > send audio output to audio2midi
> which sending midi tap to InTime > which could send midi clock to Live but...
nowadays nobody (that I found on web) try this setup and nobody reports the total latency or issues on this kind of set.
And If I wish scratch my audio clips?
with Ms. Pinky you could send turntable vector (or ttm graph) to any MaxMsp app (if you search at web you must discover a lot of stuff which support Ms.P like Visual scratch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kinhybgOOTI)
It could be possible send this value to anything in Live (matched with midi) traslating this vector like infinite pot or scrubb... delay? volume? the possiblities are infinite and this is possible not a dream.
What is necessary?
programming in MaxMsp and Ableton Integration with Ms. Pinky support development.
You must imagine the vinyl like a BIG KNOB...
how do you think about it?
well if you want it maybe posting a +1 and show to ableton the "real market" do it possible in a next release?

Yep, i bought the pink vinyl because it seems to be the best system to integrate into Live.
Now all I need is an SL1200!
I need to try this setup out first before I have anything useful to say but it looks good. Very open to interpretation and modification.
