Ableton - about the EMI 2|6...

Post by Rx » Mon Jun 03, 2002 2:07 pm

Emagic tech support informed me that they had contacted you guys about the problems with the 2|6, Live and Win2000/XP. Is this true?

Hi Rx,

It is true. But I cannot say when we will have a better solution for the EMI issue.

Alex

OK - I understand it may take awhile to figure out, if it can be fixed at all. Have you any suggestions for another audio interface for performing live with win200 or XP? I think I read a post from you earlier where you mentioned that your primary OS is Win2000 - any recommendations for me?

Much thanks!

Hi Rx,

it could be that the coming bug fix update has an improvment for the EMI 2/6 issue on the PC side. So I hope you have the time to wait a week before you look for another audio interface.

You are right concerning the operating system issue. I prefer to use Win2000 instead of Win98 because it has better general stability. But as soon as you use external hardware it depends on the driver which os is the best. And to make it really complicated, of course, selecting the "best" depends on whatever your point of view is (stability, performance, using other software trough ReWire,.....).

regards,
Alex

Alex,

Thanks for the info. I'll be waiting for quite a bit more than a week before looking for another interface.

When you mention 'better general stability' with regards to Win2000, can you mention some specifics? I've tried both 2000 and XP and so far my XP experience has actually been better than 2000, though I chalk that up to the fact that I had 2000 Server. I have had a couple of crashes lately with Cubase and certain plug-ins, but other than the EMI 2|6 issue, things are groovy.
