"Most functions in the MIDI Editor are subject to grid snapping. You can hold down the Alt modifier while performing an action to bypass grid snapping."
Pressing the Alt key and then grabbing a note has no other effect than accessing the note velocity. In order to move a note to a non-grid position, you first need to be already dragging something, then press Alt to engage the snapping override. Is this by design?
The reason I'm asking is, modifiers like this are usually pressed down before the actual drag operation, and this way of doing it isn't all that intuitive. Of course, after you notice how it works, it doesn't matter.
As the kind of MIDI editing requiring the snap override is horizontal, it wouldn't interfere with the velocity editing at all even if it was engaged right at the Alt keypress, before actually grabbing a note and dragging it horizontally. Maybe add a threshold of a few pixels for the horizontal movement (so that changing a velocity value using the Alt shortcut doesn't result in moving the note inadvertently for a few ticks) and it would be more intuitive for someone trying it for the first time.
Btw: It sure would be nice to be able to move clips in Arrangement by overriding the grid with Alt when needed, too
