Latency shifts with Zoom H4 and Live 6.0.5 on Vista laptop

Post by [email protected] » Tue Dec 25, 2007 4:15 am

Hello all. Finally couldn't find a solution to a problem just lurking through the forums. Had to come out and ask. So, I'm running Live 6.0.5 on an HP Pavilion dv9610us. Dual 1.9Ghz. 2.5GB RAM. Program seems to work fine with other sound units. With my Zoom H4 portable recorder, I have problems. The H4 is a USB audio interface in itself, with built in stereo compressor mics. Despite its "low latency" ASIO driver, below 1093 buffer (aproximately 37 ms delay), playback stops cold periodically, returning off-beat. At 1093 it seems fine, as long as I don't use monitoring through the computer; which isn't a real problem for my particular usage. So I set the Driver Error Compensation and everything recorded plays back in sync. Until, with no warning and for no apparent reason, the latency on recorded clips jumps to about 114 ms. And adjusting the compensation setting up or down seems to have no effect. All I can do is stop playback (MAJOR buzz kill!), go into the options menu, select No Device ( or another device) and then switch back to the H4. I've wrestled with this problem for days on end. Tried booting with all non-essential startup items, services and devices disabled. And every combination I could think of between full and none. I know I can use a different interface and a regular mic. But the Zoom is sooo handy with it's built in effects and beautiful stereo separation.

Help?!?
