Live 7 audio dropouts on external incoming MIDI PC

Hi,

When sending a MIDI Program Change into this MacBook running Leopard audio is dropping out for half a second.

- Is this common?
- Is there a fix or a workaround?

Details:
I'm running one instance of the AU Arturia Moog Modular V, one instance of the AU Augustus Loop and on instance of Live's Reverb. The MIDI Program Change is sent from an external MIDI controller to change patch in the Moog Modualar V synth.

Are you running Live 6 or 7? Is it a new problem, did the same thing work with another version of Live or another computer? What do you use to send the program change?

Ok, thanks for the quick feedback on my post. Here are some details:

I use Live 7. The "audio drop-out" I'm talking about is the general audio produced by Live 7, not any specific synth or channel. It's just as the computer audio card drops out for half a second.

I'm using a new MacBook running Leopard (thinking this may be a Leopard issue or a built-in-Apple-sound-card issue). I'm also having this issue when running stuff in Plogue Bidule. Normally I use firewire audio interfaces from RME and Echo, but now I'm traveling and use only the MacBook's built-in interface.

I'm sending the MIDI Program Change events from an Akai EWI 4000s. I, and many serious professional users, have been using this external MIDI controller a lot and no one have reported an issue with the sent out MIDI PC events. I also monitored it in Bidule and Logic to make sure nothing more, except for the chosen MIDI PC number, is sent out, into the computer.

The reason I'm sending external MIDI PC is to have the AU plug-in Arturia Moog Modular V change patches, which it does perfectly well.

This particular MacBook is one of the latest product line, the ones with the faster front side bus (800 instead of the old 667) that was introduced by Apple on November 1st.

As soon as I get back to my studio, in a couple of days, I will do this check with other computers, running Mac Tiger and Windows XP to see if it has to do with Live 7, the machines or the operating system.

Are you sure this is not caused by the CPU management issue some people experience, with Leopard and Santa Rosa processors? See that threads about it, for example:

No, I'm not sure about that - but I think it is not caused by that. The reason is that the issue you mention is reported for MacBook Pro with Santa Rosa and I have a MacBook with Santa Rosa. I read up on that thread before deciding to buy a MacBook.
