A Plea for High Quality Processing/EFX
A Plea for High Quality Processing/EFX
I was going to post this on the topic that asks for an spectral analyzer integration with the EQ, but then i started writting something completely out of that direction, but never the less, i want an spectral+EQ plug just like that Voxengo Gliss EQ, and if you guys can, make it better!
Well, most DAWS (if not ALL) have simple tools. They don't have anything special at all, just pure digital simple algorithms and qualities, on a side, they are effective, but nothing special on them, they are just "simple". It would be awesome to see Ableton emerge with something quite unique on this, even if it is a lil bit more heavier on the cpu. No DAW that i know have an really good EQ for most situations, be it an musical eq, and corrective eq, an precision eq, an mastering eq etc so we are forced to use other expensive tools, and the same goes to compressors and reverbs, aswell other dynamics and efx tools. I know i'm asking for too much but could you please consider it? I liked very much the new compressor and it's features in live 7.0, but still i doesn't sound nothing at all like an Sonalksis, Waves Renaiscance, URS, and Sonnox Dynamics for example (ok i know i'm playing heavy here) but it's time for all DAWS to grow up, enough with the basic tools, it's been like this for what? More than 10 years? we always have to go for other plugins to "professionaly" shape our stuff, and even then, outboard gear, cos digital can't do "that live natural thing" with the 1's and 0's. We need tools that are more serious and competitive with the big tools out there, tools that shape or give the characteristics that each of us need on the DAW not from out of it. If i could just use Ableton's EQ and Compressor properly, man it's such a waste! I know i'm asking for something quite out of the reality of DAWS in the moment, but please if possible, consider and think about this. Thank you!

"If jimmi hendrix was still alive, he'd be making acid tackno!"
And pleaaaaaase, more than anything! I really love the creativity flow of Ableton and it's possibilities more than any DAW out there, but give us an Accurate and Artifact-Less Time Stretching / Pitch Shifting Algorithm! Give us something good as Sony Acid or Melodyne then Ableton will be the Music Production and Remixing Dream DAW!

Don't worry and wait for Live 8. It will be kick ass versionRenan wrote:And pleaaaaaase, more than anything! Well for the reverb, I think it's a great one. Shure, I wouldn't pay 200-300$ for it alone, but it's simply the best and most complete reverb I've seen in a DAW. For the rest... well it is a very old and very complexe issue I think. More of a grayish question and answer, and to the taste of the producer.
No studio have relied on a one-and-only compressor or effect ever. Everything, be it digital or analog, has it's own properties and own characteristics. You have to consider compressors alone, as pretty much a full fledged instrument. Meaning that they add or subtract very subtle characteristics to the sound, and everything is independent to the make and build of the effect. More importantly, to the taste of the engineer. It is simply life.
Your point wasn't exactly this, I understand you want better quality effect native in a DAW... but check out the new additions in Live7. Every new version (since 5 for me) have seen improvements in their effects, and big ones. It is a question of time, but the abes team don't have as much time to code for a specific effect, since they have to work on a fully featured DAW!
What you are asking for is a 1 million $ studio, with the latest pre-amps, analog and digital compressors, a hall to record you're grand piano and reverbs, Mastering EQs etc... You simply can't say: "We need tools that are more serious and competitive with the big tools out there, tools that shape or give the characteristics that each of us need on the DAW not from out of it. " Studio's have always used many different external effects to shape their sound. Forever!
Plus, we already have them! Check the price tag on Live... And then go and buy classic analog compressors and pre-amps... This is serious and competitive!
I understand what your saying cause I wished for it years and years when I first started using DAWs. The problem is, a DAW is what it is, an editing station. It is for working and accelerating your work-flow. That's the meaning of life... LOL
Anyhow, I hope you get my point, even though I wish for the same as you do, it just wont really happen, ever. That's why many different companies offer many different products. It always comes down to your likings and your ears... and then to the band, music your producing. And Ableton to me, has the best sounding effects out their, and a tremendous choice of these!
Cheers

I do not agree with you. I own a lot of high quality libraries (QLEastWest, YellowTools, MOTU, NI etc.), which was recorded using high quality HW you mentioned or HQ synthesis. IF you work with high quality material, HQ EQ, compressor or Reverb is always very important to get the best result.Philippe_Michael wrote:Well for the reverb, I think it's a great one. try use Live's EQ and compressor on each track in 50 track project and compare the results with the same project with Sonnox EQ and Dynamics then you will see what is about.
I believe that version 7 is only bridge between 6 and 8 and Live 8 will be different in all terms of new features and quality. There is always enough place for improving

Yes there are many more powerful VSTs than Live's effects, really. But it all comes down to the price you'll pay. Personally I think lives effects are good for native DAW effects. I guess Protools EQ is nicer though
Anyhow, I simply think the request was a bit to big and to vague. You can't ask every company who makes DAWs to have better overall effects... that's kinda ridiculous no?
But if you've got good ideas and examples, start a thread about either the EQ or compressor... I'll probably go and vote if you've got some good points
It'll be more meaningful and constructive. The Ableton team can't really guess what's in your head when you say: All DAW effects are bad... BTW, lots of people have been complaining about the EQ.
Cheers!
