I had this problem with Live 6, and still have it with Live 7, and I can't find a solution, so any help would be appreciated. I have a Keystation Pro 88 controller hooked up to my Mac Pro running Live 7 (although this also happened in Live 6).
What I want to do is use the Fast Forward, Rewind, Stop, Play, and Record buttons to control the transport in Live. I know how to setup MIDI control in Live, but it didn't exactly work as expected. When I mapped the Play button, for example, it works only half the time. In other words, I hit the Play button on the Keystation and Live plays. If I hit stop in Live and then hit the Play button on the Keystation again, nothing happens. When I hit it a third time, however, Live begins playing again.
That got me looking and what I discovered is that the Keystation Pro 88 sends two different messages for a single button. In other words, the button is latched on or off, and is not momentary. Therefore, the first press of the Play button sends a value of 127 (on), and the second press of the Play button sends a value of 0 (off). Live expects, and maps, only one value, either 127 or 0, but not both.
So, how in the world to I get Live to work with the Keystation Pro 88 properly, or as an alternate, how in the world do I get the Keystation Pro 88 to turn the transport buttons to momentary buttons? Can I somehow set the Keystation Pro 88 to ALWAYS transmit 127 (or 0 for that matter) when pressing a button, and stop swapping between 127 and 0?
Thanks in advance, as this is overwhelming me.

It was a rather frustrating problem for me too. You need to edit the first preset, since that will allow you to keep the Instant mapping functions.
1. Download/install the Engima software (it's quite buggy unfortunately)
2. Edit Preset 1, and change the Play, stop etc buttons to standard CC messages.
3. You should find there the Max and Min for the controller settings.
- Leave REC as 127/0
- Play 127/127
- stop 127/127
- Rew 127/127
- FFW 127/127
I assigned REW and FFW to last and next locator. The REC button isn't perfect, since it won't know if you've clicked on the button manually.
Good luck

Have you tried editing the Userconfig file
Read here if you don't know about it already:

This will allow the global record to work more reliably, plus give you instant mapping. Set all the transport buttons to send 127/127. Don't assign FFW or REW to anything in the config script, since they don't work properly, at least for me.
You might have your own preferences of which CC's to choose, but here's my version regardless - I thinking about assigning C60 to loop, but I haven't decided yet:
