latency growth :(

as i'm adding new plugs/instr my latency gets bigger and bigger
after restarting Live the latency goes back to normal

this is extremely annoying i must say. i didn't have this problem in any
of the earlier versions so i'm guessing this has something to do with the
new audio engine

computer info:
Win XP SP2
E6600 @ 2.4GHz
3GB RAM
Waveterminal 192 on AISO 2.0

any suggestions?

It could be something with the plugin delay compensation. What type of plugins are causing the most problems?

You could try experimenting with settings on that area, like "driver error compensation". Dragging it into the negative should improve the latency I guess.

Waves plugs and Native Instruments VSTi's are the worst but it's more or less all plugs

the driver compensation doesn't help and the latency is different each time depending on what i'm doing
so it's hard to pinpoint a number. sometimes it's up to a 1/2 second

I'm not sure whether it's the same problem. I was about to post an issue with Drifting latency. I power up, load up an old set ( 5 VSTs = Reaktor, RMX, Sytrus and Lounge Liz).

Midi latency is spot on, not issues. Then after a play around with different VSTs (I think.. still trying to pin point the cause), I start to get a worse latency.

If I leave the set loaded and come back the next day I have about2.5 seconds of latency.

Restarting Live resets the latency back to normal

Anyone else having this is Live 7.

I'm using an M-Audio Delta Sound Card - DMA buffer at 128 samples giving input latency (reported) of 3.63 and output of 3.58, running windows XP, on
Live 7.0.1.

I recently changed DMA buffer size when I first got this problem. for years I have had it at 256.

Got the same problem. Usually it happens when I start recording ext audio, with some heavy plug on the track. I do not restart Live, only switch core audio driver off and back on in preferences and it's working well again.
Not sure what it's all about, but never had such a problem with previous versions of Live.
I'm on a Mac with Live 6.0.10

I got the same problem to. And I also have non adjustble latency of 0.5 sec when recording audio.
I really hope they fix the latency issues soon.

I was getting huge latency and narrowed it down to the L3 limiter. once that was removed it was useable (after closing and re-opening Ableton)

I noticed this problem as soon as I installed Live 7.0.1 - was trying out the new instruments and gave up after a while.

Having looked at the posts on the forum I guessed it was something to do with my Remote 37SL but that's obviously not the case.

I haven't had this problem before and I've had every version since Live 4.

I haven't tried the new beta's yet - do they address this problem? I didn't see it mentioned in the fixes list.

Anyone checked this out yet?

This may just be coincidence (or testament to their good quality), but it does seem like a number of us haing this problem have M-Audio Delta 2496 Cards.

May be nothing tho'????

One more thing I noticed was that the midi indicator (top right of screen) showed the incoming midi without latency. In time with what was playing on the Remote SL.

But, the input selector on the track that contained the instrument I was playing showed midi WITH the extra latency. I heard the synth sound and saw the midi for that track at the same time.

This would point to a problem within Live.

An expanding midi buffer ???????

You guys can probably solve that by doing this:

- Go to preferences, midi tab.
- On the midi port for your controller, press the little arrow before the name, so that more parameters expand into view.
- Change the port type from Direct to MME.

I live Live a whole bunch, easy to use and such, but I too am getting latency problems on my mac running tiger. I also have an m-audio product (Fast track pro). I've tried messing around with midi latency compensation in the preferences but it still doens't sound right, the metronome sounds a little off, as does the rest of the music. Somebody here mentioned quantizing, does that have anything to do with this. Others mentioned switching drivers, but that sounds like a windows thing.

I'm gonna mess with a bit more today and see if I can't fix it, but it needs to be fixed by Ableton is it's on their side.

When I play PC keyboard, I have't any latency.

I just did that and my problems are solved. I would also recommend, setting up your midi control in a minimal mode. I.e. only select those midi ports that you KNOW you need.

Thanks DJGroovy for the tip, it would be interesting how many others still have issues after trying this.
