Ableton ANALOG any Good?

How is Ableton Analog softsynth?

Is it hard on the cpu or light?

Easy to get around and make own patches?

I am making IDM, Ambient music, do you think that ANALOG will be good for that?

Analog is hard on the cpu but it sounds awesome.

At the start I was not using it that much but since I spended some times managing it I use it all the time.

I had the same experience with operator times ago.

I feel like Analog was worth it ( I bought the three AAS and Drum machines bundle) . I have used it a few times since buying and have been happy with the results. Some presets seem more cpu intensive than others and I can't tell if this has something to do with the presets which have effects racked with Analog or the way in which Analog is set up. I also don't find the interface the greatest..... not bad but it could be better.

jury is still out for me

I like the oscillators, but in terms of easily getting the sound I'm after I'm not so sure - I actually still tend to prefer using Operator

I think I'm more likely to use Analog just as an oscillator in a rack and avoid the controls on it - I dont find it that intuitive and I'm not really that impressed with the filters which surprised me and I really dont like the envelopes

the main issue at this stage though is that it seems to be still quite unstable - at least Live 7 in general does but seems worse with the AAS instruments loaded

I'm hoping it's like you said operator was and it will gel after some time, but I'm really not sure

having said that there are times when it is spot on, just not as often as I'd hoped as I was really wanting an analog synth, or at least just oscillator in Live, but I think it's the filters and envelopes that ruin that mostly

I'm lovin' electric, tension and the new drum machines, as well as operator and sampler as much as ever, but analog is the one item in my collection that I would not miss if it were to disappear. If I could, I would give it away.

I only demo'ed it for a short while but I thought it sounded pretty awesome. the filters sounded great to me.

but at the time ableton wasn't offering a 7 to 7suite upgrade so I never ended up getting it and I don't really feel too bad about that as I've got plenty of other stuff to play with.

For me (Live Suite Download) it's still a discovery process.
Analog it's not easy on the CPU, but don't get fooled by the presets.
There are tons of effects over there and they tax the CPU. Try adding something on your own, to your taste.

I kind of agree with you on the envelope front but it really depends what you want them to do, they're not very good for fast spikes but brilliant for smooth transitions. I think it has it's own charcter and I'm finding it really useful for for quite a few things. I can't agree too much on the filters, the overdrive ability changes everything for me, this thing is capable of some realy aggressive sounds, again, it has it's own character. A better interface would be most welcome though. I think the same thing about all the Ableton synths though, surely it's time to think beyond that little pane at the bottom of the page.

i like it a great deal - but sometimes when changing patches it emits a magical high pitched EXTREMELY LOUD skreetch which destroys my ears and makes my monitors unhappy.

... Just a comment on the interface. I would have gone towards a GUI Electric like. Analog is too messed up. Compared to Operator it's a different word on its own. I still cannot guess what routing is active....

I really dig the sound of its oscillators. especially diggin into the pulse width mod stuff and the sub/sync section hoo hum. nice to just sample the oscillators and then mess around with clip envs, distorion, delays, boobies... Gotta remember though the name gives it away, its just meant to be analog sounding, so if thats what you want grab it. If you want a hybrid dig/analog nuevo softsynth type of thing or something with a flexible mod matrix - id say look elsewhere...

a track i have up uses analog rather predominantly if you'd like to hear it used in a mellow way...(plug)

it comes in at around 1:20, the mid-high ringing synth that washes everything out about 25sec later not the mid-low pulsing synth, thats not an analog.
