Is it so hard ?

Post by Chris J » Thu Feb 14, 2008 4:21 pm

I remember requesting along with others a shortcut or assignable shortcut to deactivate/activate clips.

"piss off" is the answer in L7

how come software programmers always neglect the interface the most , is it so hard to implement ?

If you want an answer from a professional programmer, then actually yes, it is.

Read any one of many books about programming and you will see that user interface design not only generates the most arguments between coders, but also the most pain during implementation - especially across multiple platforms.

This is still taking into account cross platform libraries like wx, Qt and JUCE - which tend to be unusable for real-time critical applications like Live.

Making software like this is honestly extremely f'ing difficult, and despite everything I have ever read in this forum - both positive and negative, I still think the speed with which Ableton Live is bug fixed and implemented compares very favorably with every other music platform out there.

Before I was an Ableton Customer, I used Tracktion, which is built on JUCE...

Tracktion 3 is the most unstable piece of crap out there, as far as I am concerned. its the worst music software I have ever touched. and its what made me buy abe live.....

Its funny, I often think to myself... " I wonder if tracktion is just not capable because its written in juce "

I guess that is the answer. Juce is just not powerful enough to make a full fledged DAW...

hmmm, I think Abe Live is rad. I don't code computer, but I can totally understand what kind of insane task it must be to make something like Abe or Cubase, or Logic work... These things are so complex.

and despite all the problems everybody had with LIve 7.... I only had 1... it was fixed in the recent 7.0.2 update...

and 7.0.2 has not crashed on me yet. That is amazing. a DAW that is so stable

very slick
too many lasers...
