Hi, i'm new to your forum and was wondering if it is possible to link my mc808 w/my mac book pro and use it as a hardware synth in ableton 7?

You need an audio-midi-interface and connect the mc-808 and your laptop per jack cables (for sound) and midi (for sync). No problemo except maybe with the syncing. To me this is always voodoo :D

MIDI sync is easy.

Under preferences/MIDI make sure Live is Sending beat clock.

Set your MC808 to be a tempo Slave.

Hit play in Live. The 808 should start playing, in sync.

I purchased a usb midi cable for connection to my mac for the 808's editing software,so i assume that i'll have to look into a audio-midi-interface.Any brand suggestion to head me in the right direction? Thanks for the reply-Chris

M-Audio makes some cheap ones. There's always the Digidesign Mbox2 which has better audio/digital converters (better sound) but less bang for you buck in terms of the # of ins and outs you'll have.

youll get better midi sync using the 808 as master, if it will send clock.

Lives midi sync is about as tight as a bowl of soup.

I believe that you can use USB for the MIDI part of this connection.
The difference between theory and practice is that in theory, there is no difference between theory and practice, but in practice, there is.
