Autechre dominates! IDM rules!

Post by tiedyetrogdor » Sun Feb 17, 2008 6:12 am

I just heard an album by Autechre (their first, Incunabula). Wow! I really like those guys. They've really helped me define my own musical sound - I enjoy how their dark, cold sound can be so complicated and deep on the inside. "Intelligent" Dance music is sweet.

Oh, by the way, how do you....um.....pronounce "Autechre?" :?

Daft - punk - rules
In my life
Why do I smile
At people who I'd much rather kick in the eye?

Let him enjoy it. Incunabula is an extremely great album. So what if its old. That seems to be the era (along with Amber) that a lot of people like. If anyone else's early, hardware based ambient techno/IDM were as groundbreaking as Ae's we'd be talking about that then. It not about being a biter. Everyone has influences. Interpol->Joy Division->The Doors->The Animals.

BTW, what's with the 'I' in 'IDM'? How f*cking pretentious!

I tried to listen to Autechre... I just don't get it. Perhaps I'm not 'I' enough...

'braindance' is a better term imo, if you want to use terms to describe music

btw, I've discovered lots of great music from the 70's and before...I guess I'm some kind of cunt cos I wasn't around to listen to it at the time

I take it you don't listen to classic dub/reggae/jazz, Rogue ? ...or are you old-as-fuck ?

It's not the people who do that kind of music actually came up with that definition.. far from.. I hate it..

I'm not going to explain the whole story but afaik: it was named after one of Warp's first releases; Artificial Intelligence..

and btw; the fact that you 'don't get it'.. blaim your heart.. you're definitely "I" enough..

totally.

Me it's the term dance I don't understand in the genre.

Anyway, I enjoy autechre stuff and some other « idm » artists like laub, aphex twin, bitstream and I really don't care about the genre classification whatsoever.

genre's & categories facilitate and simplify communication...

help me re-word the following sentence, without using genre:
do you know where I could get some quality dub ? I'm lookin for some classic jazz too if you can recommend something

Autechre is one of my favourite groups. Incunabula is great, but I have to say I prefer their more recent stuff :) I can't wait to get the Quaristice Special Edition 2xCD :D
