hello. i just got both live 3 and reason 2.5 and i am trying to figure out the best way to combine them-i have created some basic tracks in reason with the drum machine and midi synth-now i would like to add some loops i sampled from external sources (record player). should i bring my track into live and add loops in live? i am not sure about the sequencing capabilities of live yet. or should i edit my loops in live and then bring them into reason for sequencing with my original track? is this possible? it seems reason isn't very good with external samples and loops (the dr rex for instance seems to only accept recycle files). i guess maybe one of the other two reason samplers is better for this.
also if i want to put on some vocals and live keys at the end do people have a program of choice for this? can live handle this kind of longer recording well or do people like something like pro tools/digital performer/cubase/etc.. for this.
thanks for any help and advice.
sampling with live/reason

rewire Reason into Live, and capture the individual segments (verse, chorus, refrain) of your song, the entire song, or the individual elements seperately (drums, synths, etc) depending on what you want to do and how far along your song is... then add your other loops into live and arrange everything together.
I suggest this because Live is an amazing tool for manipulating sampled loops and creating variations.
Ableton has a good tutorial for rewiring/capturing loops from reason:

If you're just starting....
...I'd have to advise you to start with Reason, learn it inside and out. If there's something, at some point, that you find you CAN'T do with Reason, start slowly implementing Live. You could seriously blow your mind trying to learn both of these vast, amazing programs at the same time. I've been using Reason DAILY for the past three years, and I've still only scratched the surface. You can't think of Reason (or Live) as an "instrument", but rather, an environment!
Live is just what its name implies, an environment for LIVE performance. They were kind and thoughtful enough to make it compatable with the STUDIO environment Reason, but that shouldn't imply that it's nescessary to link them together right away.[/url]

analogk..
hi.
live is amazing (just as much in the studio as live) for capturing reason's outputs, and doin it alongside everything you can do in live alone: manipulate loops, record vocals or whatever str8 onto a track (looped or non looped) and edit with ease.
for example..you made a bass line in reason. maybe it used a few fx, too.
maybe you want ti simplify your song, or are running low on CPU. if u had reason alone, you could export it, and load it into nnxt or rex (if u have recycle). then youd have to set a keyzone, paste in a midi note...and if its a 4 or 8 bar loop, you would have to start the song from the beginning of that midi note just to hear the sample...blah blah blah you get...
but if u had this same bassline, and live open...just go to live's input section and select reason. just clcik record, and it will print in real time.
then just adjust alittle warp markes to make it an even loop. now you can delete the reaon devices, and make new sounds.
hope this helps a bit, and have fun
