split incoming mididata

Post by honsey » Sun Mar 02, 2008 6:31 pm

hey,

i'm trying to interface my electribe es1 within live6. but i can't midi learn knob in live while the electribe is playing, because it is sending notes also...

is it possible to tell live, that it should ignore midinotes when i'm trying to link parameters?

thanks,
hans

welcome.

I think what you are looking for is the key zone editor for devices within an instrument rack. this will block certain midi notes while letting others pass through. look it up...

how do you like the electribe?

thanks for your comment, but i dont want split my notes. i just want to live to use notes ONLY for playing instruments.

everything works fine for me if the electribe is stopped. i can map knobs from it to parameters in live. but as a stepsequencer (in my case the electribe) is sending notes, while it is playing, live also learns this notes when i want so assign a knob to a parameter.

... and i don't like the electribe: i love it :)

it would be great if i could magage the midi-learn problem, because i'm trying to "virtualize" the electribe with live, so that i have the intuitive hardware interface but the flexibility and soundquality of live.

ic,

sorry. as far as i know; i'd be happy if someone proved otherwise but, you'll always have to stop sending midi notes to live while midi learning. great question though.

stop, program and then play.

one more taught: (while playing)
could you record the sequencer notes in a midi clip and have them play internally within live while stopping all midi sending from the electribe?

this might do it although a little trickier depending on you knowledge level of ableton.

hmm .. do you know if there are any external tools (for osx) that can split data from one incoming mididevice into two virtual mididevices?

INPUT: electribe
OUTPUT1: electribe NOTES
OUTPUT2: electribe CC

a thank you for your thought. would be somekind of livelooping like "kid beyond" and these other beatboxers using live do it but: looping midi instead of audio.

i'll try to figure out, how to do it. the nice thing about it would be, that i could have my drum/percussion set twice:

1) output to master
2) output to cue

that would enable me to let the beat go on, while i'm programming new beats.

MIDIPIPE should do it - all kind of midi filtering options. A bit complicated though, and no manual so its a bit trial and error, but certainly capable of doing what you ask

if you really want to filter notes midipipe should do it, but i dont understand why you would want to MIDI map while playing, that's best done before the gig with the tribe stopped so there is no notes flying all around
